Let's see, there are places like Myers and David Jones that have beauty departments but they tend to only have the high end brands (think Chanel, Dior, MAC, Bobbi Browm, Lancome, YSL, Shisedo) and oddly Revlon which has managed to market themselves as high end in Australia. They charge upwards of twice what the same products cost in US/UK once you do exchange rate conversions and have a limited range. OPI retails for $20 for instance. Priceline is the equivalent of CVS/Walgreens - think Revlon, Maybelline, Covergirl, L'Oreal and a few other local equivalent level brands. The best specialist cosmetics store is Mecca Cosmetica but it's still very inflated prices and a quite low range of brands. They do have NARS though. And then individual brands that are quite good (like Napolean Perdis) sell all over the place at randomm locations, like at my local chemist/drugstore along side the ibuprofen and body washes?... weird.
Some brands are pretty much impossible to get; OCC, China Glaze, MUFE, Stila are all on my quick dash list to get to whenever I travel to a Sephora!
Hence I shop a fair bit on beautybay.com and sasa.com!
I really love Mirenesse.com - they're Australian and ship to the US. The base prices are totally out of line, but they run so many sales you just have to wait a couple days and the prices will be slashed.
