Hello Everyone, I'm new to this thread ( I read, but don't post
sadno.gif
). But..I'm being brave and posting today because I got off the phone with my best friend and she is so upset about her scalp psoriasis. She has been dealing with it all summer. She is a teacher and has been wearing scarves to school to cover her head because she is so embarrassed to tell anyone. She feels like people will look at her like she is dirty or think that she is contagious. I know that she doesn't want to try anything with hormones because she wants to become pregnant within the year. And I know she has spent a lot of money on shampoos from her dermatologist (which didn't help), and that now she is trying a holistic doctor. She also doesn't use any shampoo with sodium laurel sulfate. I'm not sure if this was the right place to post this, but I'm desperate to help my friend. I can tell she was on the verge of tears today and it makes me so upset to hear her that way. Thanks in advance!!!!!

i do not have scalp psoriasis but i have it on the rest of my body (mostly my legs and torso).

i know you said it is summer where you are, but if it is in a colder climet like alaska that could make the problem worse. so i would sugest having your friend talk to her doctor about heat lamps.

i dont personally use them but i do in the summer time go out side a lot to get rid of any bits of psoriasis i get on my body over the winter.

i also found a week in florida always did my skin good

Thank you both for your suggestions! I will send her the link Carolyn provided, and tell her about the heat lamps. (We're in Michigan, so it's the end of summer right now)

I'm trying to find out if there are certain treatments that people have used and know that work to treat the scalp. I've heard of tar, and tea tree oil. I'd be willing to buy her these things, but I'd like to know they did work for someone with the same condition. Also, if anyone has anything their dermatologist recommended them or that they use. I've told her to see another dermatologist, but she's really just too upset about the whole situation now. Thank you so much for your replies ladies!

I have scalp psoriasis and I know all about the nasty, steroid shampoos the docs/derms give you! I have used SLS free shampoos (and it never helped) and had to use the yucky steroid psoriasis shampoo once/twice a week - but then I switched to Lush shampoo bar (SLS free) 'Squeaky Green' and it was all uphill from there. I follow up with Lush Veganese conditioner and have had amazing results. I am not even sure the last time I used the steroid (psoriasis) shampoo.

Disclaimer: I am not a fanatical lush addict - I just like some of the products lol

I've been using a mix of lavender oe and tea tree and it works, I mix it with some jojoba or aloe gel or put it in my shampoo. I also use a very very good hair and facial cleanser, but it's from an italian *indie* (don't know ho to explain, it sounds silly I know

) brand, it's organic and works great.

Never had any luck with dermatologist, both for this problem and for acne too, but everything is better since I stopped using the products the doctor gave me and started using organic and effective products.

I don't know if this is hard to find in the U.S. but Aleppo soap is supposed to be good for skin problems such as eczema, acne (which i have verified) and psoriasis. Maybe she could try to wash her hair with it ? It foams quite easily and i know a liquid form is also sold. I get mine at a healthfood store, since you mention she's seeing a holistic doctor i suppose she'll have to visit one, so maybe she can check that too

Thank you so much for your responses ladies!

Msmack- I am going to buy her the Lush products you suggested. I have a Lush store nearby, so this will be easy for me. I hope she likes them as much as you!

Domitilla and Magosienne - I'm going to ask her if she has tried any of the things you have suggested, and if not, I'll try to get them for her.I really am thankful for the suggestions. (Lav/tea tree/jojoba mix, Aleppo soap)

I'll post back after I give her the Lush products to let you guys know how she does.

i've been using a spray bottle with 3 asprin dissolved in warm water on the patches i get on my temples for about a week now and they seem soo much more soothed and appear a lot less dry. i don't know how effective it would be for clearing it up but it's really soothing and cooling (when you've waited for the water to cool of course!)

asprin contain a very small dose of salicylic acid which is awesome for skin renewal.

Hi! After you shampoo and condition your hair, take a spray bottle filled with organic apple cider and spray it all over. The acv has natural antiinflammatory properties and is also healing. There is a whole website dedicated to the healing properties of ACV. I don't have the link so you would have to google it. Anyhoo, you'll end up smelling like a salad, but let it soak in for 15 then rinse. keep doing this until you see it clear up. Hope that helps.

I just posted a thread in the Skin forum called Psoriasis information - maybe there is info in that thread that might be of some use.
