Sample Society: September 2012

I <3 SS! I use everything! Here is what is in my box:

1. Borghese lipgloss in Fiore - I'm not a lip gloss wearer or a fan of Borghese (I hate their shampoo, conditioner, and bar soap) but am happy with this lip gloss. The scent is beautiful and the color layers well over a vampy wine colored lipstick I'm wearing when I want to tone it down. First Borghese product I've ever liked! 
2. Tam Dao eau de toilette - surprisingly nice fragrance. I am incredibly picky about fragrance and this just seems to sing "Autumn". I'll be getting full use of this fragrance and will be tempted to buy the full size despite the price.
3. Stila Smudge Crayon in smoke. A beautiful Autumn color, very shimmery and taupey.
4. Just like everyone else, a nice big 2 oz bottle of CellCeuticucals skin cleanser. I'll try this with my clarsonic!
5. 0.9 oz Ahave purifying mud mask. I normally use Aztec Secret and organic apple cider vineger, but this will work well for travel!

LoveloveLOVE my box- Got the Smoke crayon and the Diptyque in Do Son, which I really love.

Sidenote- Anyone else find the Diptyque descriptions on the Beauty Bar website to be SUPER vague/ unhelpful? I particularly like the phrase "It has a fresh sweetness, like a sea breeze in a pagoda on the banks of the Tonkin Gulf" to describe Do Son. Because we all know what those pagoda sea breezes smell like... ;p

I usually don't complain much but I am SAD I got a black smudge stick. I can't really do blacks and I wanted the rosey one

Is anyone else mad about getting a perfume sample in this box?!?!! I would expect it from birchbox, but I don't think I've ever gotten one from sample society.

There are some good sized other samples so I can't complain too much... but perfume?? really??? Plus, it smells really good on me and is about $100 out of my price range!! grrr!

Sample Society has sent perfume before. I think in at least  2 others boxes (Oscar de la Renta, Bond).

Three perfumes Oscar x2 and the Bond.. I personally love perfume, so samples never bother me, unless I can't stand the smell. Bring them on!

Same here! I was hoping the Diptyque would be the size of the Oscar's, but as long as they don't start sending those horrible little vials with stoppers I'll be happy /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Erm, I'm kind of 50/50 on this box.  I don't think it's the best one I've received so far.  The perfume smells way too masculine for me...extremely overpowering.  I just sprayed a tiny bit on my wrist and it's triggering a migraine for me.  The Borghese lip gloss is extremely sticky (the stickiest gloss I've ever tried actually).  Does anyone else find it to be a bit ridiculously sticky?  If I hold my lips together for like 5 seconds, it glues them together.  The only thing I am remotely excited about is the black Stila smudge stick and the AHAVA mask (because I really love masks). 

I do love Sample Society a lot and always feel it's worth the $15 price tag especially with the coupon code (that I rarely use -- haha).  I am proud to say I've gotten rid of all my sample boxes 'cept for Birchbox, this, and MyGlam !  At one time, I had like 12 beauty boxes - eeek.

Here's the difference you can actually use the truly deluxe samples that Sample society sends. I am still using my Oscar. Secondly they are sending way way way higher end brands out that birchbox would only dream of getting hold of. While I get both bb and ss I have noticed that the perfumes bb sends are of the trendy celeb branded scents that can be purchased at the drug store.

Couldn't agree with this more. SS is frequently my favorite sub and BB tends to leave me cold most of the time. We will see about this month.

That's true of the Kate Spade, but BB also sent Harvey Prince, Juliette Has a Gun and Atelier fragrances that aren't readily available anywhere. They've got some of the same names as SS like Oscar. That said, I was thrilled to get the Diptyque and SS has been downright exciting lately. There's something luxurious and aesthetically pleasing even in the way the box is packed. You really feel like you're pampering yourself, and Lord knows we all deserve that!

I just ordered a bunch of dog food and a replacement lunch box for ,my son's new one that he already lost. I will have about $30 in reward credits after this. That means I can soon use my SS coupon and get a $50 for $5!

I got the Stila in Smoke. I am happy that I am able to try a different color other than my normal go to colors: black or brown.

I got the shimmery 'smoke' the taupy-bronz... when I looked at it next to the full-size Eyeko 'Old Gold' they were similar enough and since I use just a dab at the corner of my eyes, the 2 full-size Eyekos I have will do me just fine.  I'd LOVE to trade my 'smoke' for something darker (umber or black) as I'll take these for travels.

I really like Beauty Bar/Sampler Society, good sized samples and high quality.  The boxes vary from person to person, but not as much as Birchbox, this subscription is a definite keeper.

I actually just returned a 3 pack of the mini smudge crayons to ulta bc I'm allergic to bismuth oxychloride. I got smoke which I'm considering swapping since I can't wear it I will also have a full sized smudge stick in Tetra (dark purple) bc I ordered a set and already have that color from the In the Moment Palette. Overall I like the box and don't expect SS to accommodate my allergies. I could do without the perfume but nobody wants those. I'm happy with the cleanser, gloss, and mud mask.
