Has anyone ever got a professional facial at the salon? I have been wanting one for the longest time! What kinds do they normally offer? I have acne prone skin, so any that would be specifically good for that? What do they do that is different from an at-home facial and how were your results? Thanks.

Yeah I have gotten one. Usually if your acne prone, they have special facials just for your skin type. I rec. going to the salon first and talking with the skin specialist, so they know what you want and your problem is. But they usually wash, steam, treat, massage, extract, etc..Ive seen great results when people start getting regular facials. Good Luck!

I don't know if they still do them, but Aveda concept salons ( just a salon where they use Aveda products - could be any salon ) used to offer a facial called "Firmative Action" or "Affirmative Action" and it was awesome, took about an hour and included massage and hand mitts and was just soooo relaxing....and, I noticed a definate change in my skin, unlike other facials.

I think it was between 50-75$. Maybe I'll see if I can still get one....

I love love love getting a facial. I usually get one every 6-8 weeks. At the beginning, maybe the first 2, my skin didn't like it so much. But after, it got used to the great treatment and really improved. I stopped breaking out, they clean your pores and blackheads, and your face feels and looks like a babies bottom. You should definitely start getting them, you will see a big difference in your skin. The only downside is that it does add up ($$$), so you may want to space them out.

But you won't regret it.

i love facials, but i cant afford them, only when im home because there i know the woman personally so she gives me discounts. but thats literally twice a year :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> they are so worth it though, if you have the money.

How much do facials usually run? :wassatt:

Reading this topic has got me interested in getting one. :smiletongue: I too have acne prone skin, so i'd have to take that into consideration.

ive gotten it done twice at diff places and both times i left really red faced after the extraction. I thought you were suppose to have glowy skin. i guess if you get it done consistently then it won't be so bad.

my favorite part is the mini massage!

i would looooooove to get a facial, but i've never looked into it. you just reminded me. thanks!

i go and get them from time to time. i love them. i have acne prone skin and the extractions are not the best experience lol ( you know what it feels like to pop a zit ).. but, it helped in the long run. i pay $65.. they're usually in that price range.. and they're great for acne prone skin.

i love the fact that you can just sit back and relax at a salon facial! each salon will generally use 1-3 lines of skincare products while giving a facial, so you can figure out what they are using by asking them and buy them yourself if you like. i even have an extraction tool that i use from time to time. i think you can get similar results at home if you find products you like, but there is nothing like sitting back and relaxing like that! maybe i'll get another one soon! :whistling:

most spas have menus that list their services and prices. every spa is different.

I also have acne prone skin and I just had my first salon facial about a month ago. I didn't really like it.

While it was nice that someone was massaging my face, I hated the extraction and it ruined my experience. :madno: I actually made the lady stop! She also used one product on my face (I forget what it was now) and it burned like hell! A few days later I had three HUGE painful zits on my face.

This was part of a package that Ken bought me for my birthday. I started with a 1 hour full body massage, steam bath, parafin hand treatment, facial and then a manicure. The facial ruined the nice relaxing high I had from the massage, steam bath and hand treatment.

I will NEVER get another facial. I know my own skin better than anyone and I'll do my own stuff from now on.

I try to go twice a year and I have acne prone skin. I think the most important thing to look for before you have the facial is a consultation with the esthetician. I was lucky and found a great one my first go round and I have stuck with her. She never tries to push products on me and she explains what she is using and why, plus her mini massage is worth every penny!!! I always leave with a fresh, clean, glowing face.

I used to get regular facials when I was back home. I used to love getting pampered! And she would do some kind of extraction to remove bacteria, etc...for the 1st day or two I would have red spots...then I would get to enjoy beautiful skin!

Where I live now, I don't know which salons are good and the advertisements I see look like facials here are expensive.

Well, there's only one salon and spa in my town that do offer facials, I guess I have to go there..unless I went out of town! There not that bad-the lady there does my hair, but I've never had anything else done. (lol) I can't really afford regular facials but I think I might indulge in one, just once! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> Thanks for all the info. You guys are the best.

you definately need to try a facial, but you can also get the same results at home for cheaper if the results are what you're after! oftentimes when you go to get a facial they will want to do a light glycolic peel, and you can get those for really cheap online at the same strength. (there is a thread about this) the salons are just using regular spa skincare lines, so ask for some samples, go home and try them, and see if you want to invest in something for home. ask her what she used too! you might call and and ask what products they use before you go. i had a dermalogica facial once and had great skin from using their products. still use some of them!

I'm sorry your experience getting a facial was so painful. My cousin said the same thing - she went in for a facial a couple of days before her engagement and started breaking out soon after. I think the reason for this is because the top layers of your skin has been cleansed and exfoliated, so the zits that had just started to form underneath (that you couldn't see yet) were brought to the surface. That's why a lot of people think the facial made them break out. You'd probably have to get a series of facials until completely fresh skin is brought to the surface, then you'd get no more zits.

All in all, that could probably be accomplished at home with the right products. :icon_chee

Just went to a great salon today!

They are nice, not expensive, no wait, speak english clearly, very CLEAN, and well organized!!! Talk about hard to find! I went tanning and got a manicure.:patches: I was looking at their facial prices and was wondering if the prices were reasonable/okay???

Little info: I have oily/acne prone skin and I've never had a facial before so I need your help ladies!

their brochure says:

*Plain Facial (30 min) .... $30

includes deep pores cleaning, steaming extraction massque, and massage

*European Facial (60 min) ....$45

A deep cleaning treatment which includes steam, enzyme peel extraction and intensice masque to refine and nourish the skin essential oils and used in a relaxing massage to the face, neck, and shoulders.

I just started seeing a dermatologist to get serious skin care for my acne, I have gotten 2 facials so far with 3 weeks in between. So my next one will be in 3 weeks and I can't wait. Honestly right after the facial I look horrible because they just extracted pimples...especially blackheads, but I know it's all for the better. Along with my facials I have gotten microdermabrasion or glycolic peels. My skin has improved so much, and I can't wait to see the full results. I love getting facials, I leave all the picking for a specialist.
