i want to achieve that pretty curled look, like big, loose bouncy waves, but my hair is straight. i don't want the effect that scrunching gives, and i'm not too good with a curling iron. i was thinking of trying some kind of hair rollers. should i try velcro or hot rollers? i've used foam rollers before when my hair was wet, but the result was awful-the curls stuck to my head (it reminded me of how a lot of elder women style their hair..no offense to anyone)! anyways, does anybody have any suggestions/recs regarding rollers? thanks a bunch in advance!

hmm ... u might have to wait for Janelle to see this post ... i can't get rollers to work for the life of me ... i've heard that for loose curls , spritz your hair w/hairspray , use a tissue paper to wrap hair ends , roll hair into curler ... pin the roller in place and spritz again .. let me say . .that did not work for me ... i couldn't get my hair out of the rollers for the longest time ... bad experience ..

i love curling irons though .. they do the trick for me everytime . ..

I have Conair ion shine hot rollers. They work well, except I have so much hair that I can't do my whole head at one time, which is a giant pain. Well, actually I chopped my hair about a month ago, so it might not be that bad now. Hot rollers work well, as long as you can see the back of your head when putting them in. Another idea is to wet your hair, work styling mousse through it, and then roll up pieces of paper towel into skinny rolls. Then wrap sections of your hair around the rolled up towels, and tie the ends of the paper towel at the top of your head. Sleep on it. My friend has sorta naturally curlyish/wavy hair and this made her hair super curly. I figure on a person with more naturally straight hair it might be more subtle.

I use hot rollers from Vidal Sasson they work real well for me. If you want soft loose curls only use th bigger rollers and leave them in for a short time. (3 or 4 min)

Sorry I can't be of any assistance myself either. My hair has always been too thick for those heated rollers to work, and the old school style with the foam always made it TOO curly! Hopefully Janelle catches this soon with lots o' helpful advice

I've got the dumbest hair in the world, so I probably have no business even replying, but have you thought about steam rollers? I have some and they do work well.. I have curly, wavy, straight hair, that never holds a curl... But with these, it does...

I have straight hair and I got those hot rollers by Conair. I really like it. I don't need to leave the rollers for a long time, just a few minutes and I get subtle waves.

I've had mine for a long time, but I'm pretty sure they are still made.. Maybe Sally carries them.. I'm sure you can do a search and find them.. No harm to your harm at all..
I have to say, I'm now going to look into the Conair rollers too...

Oh I know what your talking about. Do the ones that don't use salt work just as well as the old ones that used salt?? I had bought a set at a yard sale years ago, and it used salt, finally burnt up. I should get a new set though. Thanks

Gee, I've never had any that use salt, so I can't compare... I did have a clothes steamer once that used salt, and the one I got later that didn't use it, worked as well... That's the only comparison I can make on that...

I'm curious to know too..I guess I should probably wait for my hair to grow out a little bit longer though..

My hair is thick and long so if I use a curling iron or hot rollers it gets so weighed down its gone by the end of the day lol. I use the BIG foam rollers at night when my hair is only slightly damp, sleep on it then style in the morning.

I personally use magnetic rollers, if not I would recommend mesh or caruso's...foam rollers are a BIG no-no.

I love my conair rollers!!! they make my hair wavy and natural looking. It doesn't seem to damage my hair, although I dont use them every day.

I dont use the metal clips that were in the kit, I bought white plastic clips in CVS that are much more convinient to use.

oh ok, well thanks for all of the input! i will definitely check into the remington and conair rollers, as well as the steam rollers. that's something totally new to me. hair damage is always a big concern of mine. thanks again guys!
