i know there's already a post about rollers but i didn't really want to hijack it because my problem is a little different.

i basically need some instructions on how to use rollers? i have two kinds of velcro thermal rollers, one kind is the huge sort and the others are medium to small sized. i'd take measurements but they're in storage at the minute. the packets say to roll into the hair and then blast with a hairdryer to heat them up.

i've used them once or twice before but without much success. they tend to sort of make my hair kinky rather than wavy or even volumised. i always read in magazines to put the huge ones at your roots to get volume but i find it just leaves a big kink? also after a while the kinks unfurl quite quickly, so even if i am using them right the style doesn't hold.

so any tips or general advice on how to use basic rollers?

I have velcro rollers and what I do is, use the smaller ones and roll from the bottom of the hair to the top, so the whole hank of hair is rolled around the roller. Then pin in place. I do this all over my head and sleep in them with a headscarf over them.

If you're using heat ones, maybe start with damp hair, use a curling product and roll the rollers in and pin.

Then use your hair dryer to dry them out. Spray with hairspray, unravel.

just to hijack this picture from google, this is kind of how I place mine:

Can someone please tell me how to use the pins? I know this may seem like a dumb question, but how do they fit around the rollers? Anyone have a picture? Lol.

I've never had luck with velcro rollers, only hot rollers. And my favorite ones are by remington. They don't require pins!!! You just roll your hair, than flip the end of the roller inside out and it stays in place. I love them, they work so good I just bought some for my best friend! I originally bought mine at Meijer, but now they are only available online. But, if you do want to purchase them, I suggest signing up for remington's emails first, then buying them a day or so later. (They send a 10% off coupon code to you for signing up for email) Here's the link: Remington All That! Wrap n' Roll Setter | H1000 | Remington-Store.com

Also, I'm going try velcro rollers out again. I've tried the big plastic type before and they didn't work for me, but I think I'll try the soft ones and try sleeping with them.

Good luck, and hope this helped!

haha, yes they do kind of hurt to sleep in, you have to get them to settle and sleep 'between' them. It's not easy, and I don't do it if I really need a good night's sleep! LOL.

The pins, it's not around the whole roller, just around the hair and the edge of the roller.

How can I explain? it's hard. Umm... if you look at the picture, her rollers have things in the middle, but velcro rollers are just a tube. Once the hair is rolled up, the pin goes over the hair and down the side of the roller. Does that make sense? lol it's easy to do, hard to explain

I think I get what you're saying, pinksugar. I guess I'll just have to play around with it some more. You would think the instruction booklet would have pictures for girls like me that have no idea what they're doing! Lol.
