Not sure if THIS is the right area to post this ..if it needs to be moved ..let me know or move it for me.

My daughter ..she's 10 ..she's got the Italian curse for dark hair (just like me!). Friday night she was at her Girl Scout dance when one of her BEST buds commented on her having a mustache! (that would have been the end of that best friend LOL). (kidding). Krystin handled it well ..she just laughed and commented on the fact that she's Italian (that's my girl), however you could see she was hurt by it also! She came over to me and said "I want it waxed off ..NOT my eyebrows ..my lip" (okay ..I want the brows done too but will wait).

WHAT SHOULD I DO FOR HER?:

bleach

wax

other removal

I told her NOT to shave it ..that I'd find something for her ..poor thing!

i know how she feels! i had the same problem at her age, but of course kids weren't quite so cruel back then. i'm not sure about what she can use at that age. my 14 year old niece has a unibrow and i use the little facial razor just to keep her looking neat. those little facial shavers aren't bad at all. i haven't noticed the hair growing back more quickly or heavily. let us know what you decided to use for her.

Poor girl, 10 is so young to begin hair removal. She's lucky that she has a mother who knows her way around hair removal methods. For her, I'd try bleach first, it works wonders. Other kids might not even pay attention to the same hair if it's lighter. If it's still very visible, then I'd wax.

awwww shes very brave! if i was 10 i would of cried lol, it must make you feel bad to see your daughter like that, i would try bleach first imo be4 you don anything crazy like wax then every 2 weeks shes going to have to go back you know

I know people who have their eyebrows threaded, they compare it to waxing. I'd want to find out more about it, too, sounds interesting (although similar to epilating)...

sometimes when mom's get involved in these things it can make the situation worse. girls can be so nasty to each other about things they go through during puberty. you really don't want that teasing thing to continue so i would tread lightly. jmho!

I had the same problem as your daughter!

Only, I was teased SO much and I grew up poor, with very old-fashioned parents, so there was no going to mom for help - not without her laughing at me and telling me about how they had no razors in the 50's! :icon_roll Your daughter is VERY lucky to have you!

I did start using bleach by saving my allowance though and it worked reasonably well to stop the teasing. BUT, self-esteem wise, it help a little.

I could still see it, even if it was blonde, and it made me very self-counsious. I was convinced that people were still laughing at me behind my back or something.

Anyway, I say go for the bleach first, but if she still feels uncomfortable maybe go with the wax. I remember the bleach used to irritate my skin and leave little white marks on the area though, so I would test it out at night so that if there's any irritation it would be gone by morning.

that is so great kim. i'm so happy that you found something that worked for her. we all know how hard this stage of development is for girls. she is so lucky that she has a mom that understands. great job mom!:clap

I think that the bleach is the best solution. It is less invasive and won't harm her young skin so much.

yay kim! i went through the same thing when i was younger but i tried electrolisis... never again! that hurts like a mofo!

Yayyy so glad to hear it worked! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> She is lucky to have a mother that understands these issues. I wasn't allowed to shave or wax my legs until I was the last person in my class with hairy legs and teased mercilessly. They called me spider legs, etc. and it was terrible. Timely understanding from parents is very important. I am happy for your daughter that it worked out well! :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Ohh I am so glad the bleach worked things out Kim!

She's a little girl with a big heart Kim, just like you ;) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

edit:

I think this is fits in Bath, Body and Fragrance Talk.

Awww Kim your poor baby! I wasn't allowed to shave or wear a bra until I was in highschool!!! Your daughter is so lucky to have such an understanding Mom. I was teased mercilessly about my hairy legs, and it was blonde! The worst was having to change clothes in gym class and being the only girl who didn't wear a bra...awful. I think you did the right thing with bleach, and if that doesn't work maybe Nair. That's what I use now. It's very mild.

She'll thank you later!!! So glad she's happy.

kim, i moved this to the bath, body, and fragrance forum, if that's okay :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

i'm glad you did something about it and she's very happy. if i had said something like that to my mom, she would've been like, who cares?

about threading, it'd be WAY too painful for her, especially on the lip. it's pretty painful for me (eyebrows) and i can deal with pain, but not for a 10-year-old.

oh, and i use this to get rid of my "mustache". mine are blonde and very little, but it annoys me when i apply my makeup...

i only use it above my lips and brows. i don't see it working for a bikini area :icon_roll

LOL, my mom would get mad at me if I decided I wasnt going to wear a bra. I was around 11 when I had to start, and you could tell if I didnt wear one, I refused b/c people were snapping it all the time. I got really upset around this time when I started getting some dark facial hair, my mom tweezed them for me b/c I was scared of it hurting. I didnt do anything about my upper lip until later in high school, a girl made fun of me and called me names.

My grandma used to say that the females in my family are part gorilla, b/c it gets worse every generation. I must have really looked liked a nerd, that was the time of the sun-in craze, so my hair was super blonde and brassy, I had a moustaste, was pale, and wore bright lipstick. Hehe.

well im lucky for that i never had any hairy parts so i dont know how it feels but im sure you did the right thing. bleach is the best solution. you're a wonderful mother Kim. When i read that she hugged you and she was happy with the bleach i was like .. ohhhh its soo cute!
