Question about hair color and fillers--help, please!

Hello all! I am new here and hoping to get some advice about hair color and protein filler. I have long hair, fairly thick, layered, natural color dark blonde. A few years ago, I noticed that my hair was turning a "yellowy" color, especially the longer parts.

I have had sucess using home hair color to darken my hair, but it seems that the results are not lasting long lately. I just found out about protein filler and how it can help when coloring. From what I read, I am guessing my hair is too porus and that's why the color fades so fast.

Here is the question--the directions for the filler (neutral protein filler from Sally's) say to put it into damp hair, don't rinse, and color as usual. BUT, the (drugstore) hair color says to apply to DRY hair. So, should I wait until my hair dries after the filler, or color while my hair is still damp?

One more thing. About highlights--how long after I color should I wait to do the highlights?

So confused--any help is appreciated!

P.S. I was originally considering going to my regular hairdresser and getting the color and highlights done. I was thinking 2 weeks ahead would be plenty of time to schedule, but she will be on vacation! (Way to plan on my part, right?

) I am desperate to do this to my hair SOON--I have a 20-year class reunion next weekend! So, I am ready to try it myself, and hope for the best!

You probably do need a filler. A lot of people with blonde hair do. It helps the new color hold longer and appear more "true". You can apply color if your hair is damp. I wouldn't do it if its soaking wet... just let it air dry awhile and then apply color. It's easier to color dry hair because you know what is saturated w/ it ... and what parts you may have missed. But the results generally are the same on either.
