MY HAIR IS WAIST LENGTH, WAVY, NOT VERY THICK, A LITTLE GREASY, BLACK.....

(1) I AM ALWAYS CONFUSED AS TO HOW TO STYLE MY HAIR - AT WORK, DURING PARTIES, WEDDINGS, ETC. COS MY HAIR IS A LITTLE WAVY. Wavy hair is usually easier to work with... You can either blowdry it straight, scrunch it for waves & curls, and it usually is easier to put up in up-do's and for formal looks because it has some texture to help hold the style.

(2) I AM CONFUSED AS TO WHAT SHAMPOO SHOULD I USE TO GIVE VOLUME AND MY HAIR TO LOOK STRAIGHT. I love HealthySexyHair Soy Milk Shampoo & Conditioner... I'm sure you've heard me talk about it a million times... but it does work. My hair is wavy, about mid-back in length, and can get oily. And I get great results from it.

PLS ADV WHETHER A SHAMPOO WITH CONDITIONER IS GOOD OR A SHAMPOO SEPERATE WITH CONDITIONER IS GOOD?? Unless you are in a hurry, I always prefer a seperate conditioner. The ones that are built in to 2-in-1 shampoos aren't very conditioning, and if you're hair is oily, you really don't want to be using it on your roots since it does contain conditioners. Wash your scalp with shampoo, and condition just your ends. AFTER TRYING GARNIER ULTRA DOUZ, NYLE, NOW I USE BOOTS SHAMPOO FOR GREASY HAIR - ITS OK. CAN YOU ADV A GOOD SHAMPOO FOR VOLUME. HealthySexy

(3) HOW SAFE IS PERMANENT STRAIGHTENING?? DO THE CHEMICALS HARM AS YOU AGE?? WHAT IS RIGHT AGE FOR PERMANENT STRAIGHTENING?? (I AM 30 PLUS..) It depends on your hair... I wouldn't say there is a right 'age' to do it... but your hair does change as you get older, so depending on its condition, that would be a better way to judge if you are a good candidate. I personally would never use a chemical straightener again (I had very bad results) but, Japanese straightening, depending on the way its done... can help people with very curly or unruly hair. Honestly I wouldn't reccomend it to anyone as it's very damaging, and rather expensive to upkeep.

(4) WHAT IS JAPANESE STRAIGHTENING?? Chemicals are applied to the hair to break down the molecular bonds... the hair is then either ironed, straightened, etc. to create the 'new' shape. Finally another chemical is added to seal and conform the hair to this new straight shape. (It's a little more complicated, but this is the easiest way I can think to describe it... lol)

(5) HOW LONG DOES THE PERMANENT STRAIGHT LAST?? AFTER HOW LONG MUST YOU GO FOR THE NEXT SITTING?? It depends on how fast your hair grows. As with color, or a perm, you'll notice that as your roots grow out, they will have to be redone. Usually every few months.

(6) IS IT BAD OR DOES THE HAIR LOOK BAD IF YOU DONT PERMANENT STRAIGHT AGAIN..OR IF YOU IGNORE.. Probably would depend on how curly it was before, and whether your hair is growing in the way it used to be. Sometimes hair texture and 'type' will change over time, so it's kind of hard to determine exactly what anyone should expect.

(7) HOW IS THE MAINTENANCE..?? Some people find it easier to work with the hair after perm. straightening.... in my case, I needed more effort & time because my hair was so dried out... so I had to actually work harder and longer on it to get it somewhat decent looking.

(8) IS PERMANENT STRAIGHT BETTER THAN A PERM?? Well a perm is to curl hair... it's a similar process, but you are conforming the hair into a curl pattern instead of making it straighter. Perms can be drying, but I usually find that they aren't as damaging. And with the right cut, the right products, and when it is done correctly, it can give you curls for quite a long time.

Thank you so much for your valuable and informative response..

You were talking about balm in the other thread to keep your hair straight..What kind of a balm is this and how do we use it?? Please name give the brand name and I hope it is not expensive and it also gives volume to the hair.... Thank you once again

Hi Janelle,

I am still awaiting your response..the right balm which can straighten my hair and give volume...the procedure to use..the do's and dont's..puhllleeeeeeeeaaassse

One more thing here in India most of the hair dressers recommend a permanent straightening. They say the hair gives more volume than before and there is nothing to maintain...Is Indian hair different from the others...As I said earlier my hair is not so thick medium thickness mid-back length and wavy....I really do not understand cos' my hubby doesnot like this shabby look and wannna neat look and ask me to go for a permanent straight....CAN YOU PLEAS ADVISE A GOOD AND A CHEAP BRAND OF STRAIGHTENER BALM AND HOW SHOULD I BE USING...DAILY OR ONCE A WEEK.....?? HOW EXPENSIVE IS THE HEALTHY SEXY SHAMPOO..??? PLS RESPOND SOON,,,,,,I AM GETTING IMPATIENT..

Indian hair is beautiful don’t do it. Just buy a flat iron. Just flat iron your hair for the occasion…. Do some research here about flat irons.

Don't we all just LOVE Janelle for her wealth of wisdom on hair?! I know I do

Priti, Janelle advised me to use either CHI Pliable Polish, Biolage Conditioning Balm, or another balm called Crazy Curl Balm, but I forgot the name of the company that makes it! It starts with an "A," I know that much

Has anyone heard of the YUKO system for permanent straightening? I got this done about two years ago and it made my hair silky soft and totally staright for about 5 months. It cost about £350 though and took all day sitting in the salon waitng for it to set. I was really pleased with the results but I want to grow my hair really long before i get this done again. Here's a link - http://www.go-straight.com/

I just had my hair permanently straightened by a friend and the price was a steal considering that it was done at the convenience of my own home. The stylist only charged me less than $100 for that including the protein treatment. Im now very happy with the results.
