So....most of you know that I dyed my hair darker last night. Well....of course since I am never satisfied ...go figure...I think it may be a bit too dark for my liking right now. My question for you all is I put in the dye below...#50 medium natural brown. Needless to say it turned out significantly darker than the box color and darker than I had expected. Here's the link that has pics.... I was thinking of trying to lighten it just one shade. I would wait a few weeks of course nothing all of the sudden b/c I dont want to fry my hair. I'll be sure to use plenty of deep conditioners and such. But I was thinking of dyeing it just one shade lighter which I also posted #60 light natural brown. Would that be a bad idea? I just do not want my hair to turn like orange or red or green......or fall out. lol That could be bad. I heard it wasn't a good idea to lighten hair once it had been colored darker. I didn't know if that also meant JUST ONE SHADE lighter? I have never colored my hair before last night. Just wondering if I could dye over it one shade lighter IF I decide to.

I am especially interested in hearing what Janelle has to say. She gives great advice. So if anyone has any experience...HELP!

okie .. I'm not Janelle but ... .I've tried to lighten my hair b4 after dying it another color. It's not easy to get my hair to be brown from black. All the dye just washes off in the shower so i dyed it again the next day ... a lighter color ... my hair turned out just the color i want it. ... not orange or green or purple .. however, i will admit ... waiting onli 1 day is probably not such a smart idea.... I was mad that all the colors washed out the first time

Also, as u shampoo your hair more, the color is going to be lighter anyways. But i hope u don't decide to lighten it ,cuz that dark brown looks so much better than the lighter color u originally had. It's a nice change .. don't u think ?

wow ... U realli are dumb T ... LoL .... jk!!

but .. umm ... what do u mean .. light and dark ?

I do like it a ton! and everyone else does too..I think I'm just being silly and well I dont know. lol I'm juts so used to having lighter hair. I dont want it much lighter...just maybe a shade. Then again maybe not at all. It was just an option that I am looking at. Thanks though for your help!

I think that means they like both colors. The light hair on me....and teh dark hair. lol

if u want to lighten ur hair def defenitely go to a salon. And let your new hair color get lighter. Wash it couple of times. In a week it will look lighter.

I thought about that idea b/c I am goign to teh salon sometime this week to get layers put it. But then I was thinking....since I dye my hair at home....how would I keep from dyeing the highlights...so I can't do that. lol

uhhmm.. i don't know how good it is to do this many chemical procedures to your hair within one week.. you may want to give it a little bit..

but i don't know much about hair styling.. lol i just come out of the shower and let it all airdry...

It's upto you i guess.. highlights would be pretty

I would wait and see what it looks like after it oxidizes. With at-home colors, usually just doing a lighter color over a darker one won't lighten your hair. In most cases you won't really see a difference. I would go to a salon if after 2-3 weeks you still want it lighter. If you add highlights, you can't do an all over color, or you'll cover them up. The highlighted areas will lighten eventually, but not back to the blonde you'll get in the beginning. Honestly, I would wait.... the color you have isn't that dark to the point where it won't lighten up at all ---- so you might end up a shade lighter in the end --- without having to do anything at all. You can try Prell shampoo (the original green one)... and it'll help speed up the fading, but I wouldn't touch it color wise until it's oxidized.
