I planned to stay away from heat appliances, but i fell off the wagon. I plan to start againg tomorrow. If I totally give them up, all of them, the curling iron, hair dryer etc. How long do you think it would be before my hair show some improvement, as far as dryness, split ends etc?

It's not going to be any one thing at once that's going to "fix" your hair. It's going to be a series of things that you'll have to do. The amount of time varies from person to person given how much damage has been done.

Hi Aquilah, this is what I am planning to do. No heat, I have been eating better, taking purvana hair vitamins from gnc, exercising, drinking water. Also I am trying to not wash my hair so much. I found a recipe for an deep conditioner on longhaircommunity. You use 1/4 aloe vera gel, 1/4 honey and 1/4 of your fav conditioner. Warm in the microwave 15 seconds or so. apply to hair. leave on for about one hour. I think you wrap your hair up in saran wrap or something. Any other tips for me?

i stop useing heat everyday and use every other day and notice a difference but my hair is not damage to begin with.. how damage is your hair

Honestly, I notice you ask a lot about color. I'd definitely stay away from permanent colors. Just use semi-permanents or rinses. That's your best bet. That's the only way I can continue to color my hair without damaging it severely, but I prefer to just stay away from all color.. Even though I do have grey hairs popping up!

Also, it might be time to consult a professional who can see your hair and work with it hands on. We can only give suggestions based on what you say, but it could be better or worse than you say. Having someone physically examine your hair can make a world of difference.

have you thought of cuting all the damage off and start over cause once its damage to the point it splits, no matter what you do it will continue to split all the way to the new growth and cause fuzzys

I have been using color pulse for about 7 months or so, renewing the color every 3 weeks. It is just a wash out color, but I am thinking that it is really drying my hair out also. Then lately I haven't even been able to find it, that is why I have been asking more about color the last few days. I have to color my hair, so I am hoping I can find a semipermanent that matches. The lady at Sallys said there was reeally no difference, that they were still chemicals, and that with the semi perm, I would just be doing it more often than the permanant. So she made me think I should just do the permanent, but you say that it is really alot more damaging, right.

You say you have to color your hair, why is that?

I'm sure she has some sense of truth behind all colors being damaging, but the main issue is whether or not ammonia or peroxides are in the color. BTW, I don't know that all employees of Sally's are professionals to all extents. I've seen newspapers advertise jobs in there that didn't require knowledge, and Lord knows I've had an associate or two who knew nothing!

I just know my stylists recommend I only use rinses in order to keep the damage away or to a bare minimum. I know there are other ways in which you can color your hair, even though they may seem silly. I've used Kool-Aid in the past (definitely not permanent, but it worked).

You are probably right about the knowledge of some of those employess. The reason I need to color my hair, is that the past year I have grayed alot on top, and the rest of my hair is a dull red. I need something to give me some pazaaaazzz, lol Oh and how did you color your hair with koolaid???

That is fine, I just want to get rid of this dull, drab red. It needs brightened up a bit, I am getting some really bad gray on top.

My hair is so wild and sticks out when it dries. I always have to flat iron. Is there a way to get it to lay flat without using the flat iron? I have some natural body to my hair, but it's so short it just sticks out. :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
