Hey,

Just so everyone knows, I am a guy.

I have had my hair Japanese Hair Straightened twice now.

First time lasted 2 months and the 2nd time was done in April 08.

My hair is very thick, so says 2 hairdressers from differnet salons.

My experience with Japanese Hair Straightening has been quite good.

Now I need to do something about my curly regrowth.

I was wandering if the "Ogilvie Straightener" was any good.

I have read more positive reviews than negative.

My hair has only ever been Japanese Hair Straightened.

No colors, nothing.

I have straightened my hair with an iron before.

For the past month or so, my hair has just been so unmanagable.

I read that layering it makes it a lot more managable.

I was thinking of getting my hair trimmed, layered, and then I would use the "Ogilvie Straightener".

Since women have alot more experience with hair care, I was hoping you could share some of your tips and advise me on what to do next.

Thanks

Hi Ultra - I have thick wavy curly hair and it is now just past my shoulders.

I find what works for me is layering my hair from the earlobe downward.

It is a lot more managable - when I iron it, it hangs straight down, rather than puffing out at the bottom, giving a triangular look.

Have you flat ironed your hair, close to the scalp? Do you use hair serums?

Hopefully, someone can give you some ideas about the regrowth.

Yeah! I am definitely going to get my hair layered. I am going to make an appointment this week.

I have flat ironed my hair before.

I am not too familiar with hair serums and what they do.

I have Leave-In Conditioner, Anti-Frizz Straightening stuff, and I also have Heat Spray to protect my hair.

Serums help me manage my hair better. They add shine, make my hair softer, certainly less frizzy, and help when there is a lot of humidity.

You can apply a drop size in your hair, while it is still damp - before styling.

You might consider mixing a drop of serum with your leave in conditioner.

Or wait until you are completely finished styling to give your hair a nice shine.

I'm not sure what lines are available in south Africa but I'm sure your stylist can recommend a good one. Just remember, a little serum goes a long way.

I was going to mention that having layers cut into your hair will not look that obvious as your hair is quite thick and curly. If you style it straight, your hair should still look all one length.

Post a picture after you get your hair cut.

I will check out the hair serums.

My hair tangles hecticly which is quite annoying.

Is there anything I can do? The leave-in conditioner only helps so much.

Is there a treatment I can get done to get rid of tangled hair?

Will get a photo of my hair soon after it is done. Maybe a few days after it is done. ^^

Sunsilk's detangling shine spray works well when I get tangles, though I don't really find it effective as a shine spray. I've only heard good things about Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum too, but I've never tried it myself. I know someone with very thick, poofy hair who uses this when she straightens it and it made her hair look so nice and silky.

Mixed Chicks is becoming my new hair-religion. I worship the stuff for my thick curls. It totally defines and tames. And as the Mixed Chicks say, "Thou shall never deal with frizz again."

Well, I have gotten back from the hairdresser.

I didn't get my hair layered. The hairdresser recommended against it.

She said it would be easier to blowdry and flat iron if I don't layer my hair.

Now, I don't do much for my hair.

I just get out of the shower, spray some leave-in conditioner, comb, and then brush my hair.

In future I am going to blowdry my hair when I get out the shower to see the difference.

The hairdresser did recommend I get a shine spray for my hair when it is dry or that I must add silicone to it when it is damp if I am not going to blowdry it. (Carolyn did tell me this first. Thanks).

Are there any techniques to use to get rid of the curly regrowth on my hair just by blowdrying it, without having to use a flat iron?

When you blow dry your hair, it is easier if you do it a section at a time.

The hotter the blow dryer the better - but can be damaging after a while.

You need to have some tension - pull your hair tight - while blow drying.

Some people use a round brush - wrap the hair around the bristles and direct the air straight down the hair shaft. If you blow dry into the hair, this can cause frizzies.

I use an interesting brush from Goody. It is like two brushes face to face, that are hinged. I find it easier to grasp and hold the hair, then apply tension.

And you might let your hair air dry a bi, then blow dry it straight. It can get a bit exhausting to blow dry wet hair.

Just remember to use the heat protector product while blow drying.

Let us know if these ideas work.

I tried the blowdrying technique. Most if not all of my curly regrowth went straight, but the blowdrying made my hair look very thick.

Just using a brush and blowdryer will only go so far, in my opinion.

When you have your hair cut by the stylist, have they showed you how to style to get the curls out, and make your hair look smooth and straight?

It may be worth while to make another appointment and get him/her to teach you.

I still think getting layers cut into my hair has help me a great deal - took the bulk and thick bushiness away so it can hang straight down.

Have you checked UTube? There are lots of videos on how to style hair - maybe one of them can offer some styling tips.
