Hey everyone!

I need some help here. Last year in August, I got my first perm. Even though many people were like, "no, no it will kill your hair etc" But I didn't listen to them and now I totally regret it because it's really taking a tole on my hair.

During the perming process, the hair stylist actually burnt my scalp. Yes, burnt.

Anyway, I thought everything was ok, but I think, last year in November it really started to show the effects on my hair. Now, my scalp is terrible, and maybe it's because I usually go to bed with wet hair (it's too cold to shower in the morning and it'll freeze), and for some reason, I will wake up and like the hair at the back of my head feels like it hasn't been washed in YEARS. Like it all sticks together, dry as hell, and impossible to do anything to untangle it because it still feels gross.

I really don't know what to do about this because I love my hair and have always had it long. Does anyone have any ideas about what to do? Eg: good conditioning products, shampoo to help it, hot oil treatments?

Thanks everyone in advance.

It concerns me how you describe your hair. You say it sticks together, in the hair industry, we refer to this as 'gummy hair'. The chemicals in the perm, obviously permanetly altar the structure of the hair (since PERM is short for PERMANENT). When the hair becomes gummy, such as you're describing, its basically the point of no return. Whether you want too or not, you need to get a good cut; the stylist will know upon looking at your hair where the 'gumminess' stops. I can certainly reccomend shampoo's/conditioners/treatments for you to use, but to be honest, thats giving false hope. At this point, based on what you described, you need to get the severly damaged bits cut off. You can start using a protein based regim after you've gotten your hair cut; The most effective one for the level of damage you are describing is going to be Biologe ForteTherapie.

Yeah, and it's like at the roots at the back.

So, if I get my hair cut, would something like extensions or something effect it? I hate short hair!

Clip in extentions - go nuts; Extensions fused/glued into the hair - DEFINETLY NOT....honestly, you need to give your hair a rest...start using the protein as soon as you have got the hair cut...you will notice a huge difference in 3 weeks.

Hahah yeah, I was just researching up on the extensions that are glued into your hair.. sounds a bit extreme. I've been trying so hard to not use any heat products or anything, but if I look in the mirror and see something it's automatic, have to fix it with hair spray, flat iron, curling iron, etc.

Thank you so much. I think I will go with the hair cut. Clip in extensions aren't too pricey I don't think...

They arent expensive at all....go to your local Sally's, they'll be able to match your colour for you

And you are most welcome!

One more thing (And I'm very grateful for all your help)

If I go to the salon, and maybe if they keep it long enough so that I'm still able to keep it in a pony tail, it should be all right at that length?

& shampooing... does it make a difference of how many times I want to wash it a week? I read the myths thread about hair that it doesn't but I've been told it does like my whole life.

How much to cut off is hard to determine without seeing your hair...your stylist should/will know. As far as how often to wash, Of course it matters how many times a week you wash your hair; everytime you wash you are esentially removing the scalp natural oil; the less you can do it, the better off you'll be

Hi, sorry about your hairproblem. I suggest that you sleep on a silk or satin covered pillow, not cotton. It is kinder to the hair during the night.
