Is this the ingredient that causes hair to lose its color quicker???? If it is then why did I see this ingredient on the herbal essence for color treated hair, doesn't make sense. I wonder if the sunsilk has this ingredient too. I forgot to look and see.

Usually it's the main ingredient to make the shampoo suds up. There is some form of the ingredient in almost every shampoo.

I'm not for sure but I believe that Jonathon Product carries a shampoo that claims to be laurel sulfate free. I sampled it and it was like washing my hair with maple syrup.

So ist is o.k to use these shampoos then, do they really not strip color, because I love the way the new herbal essense smells.

If you use the color protecing version... you should be fine.

If you can, regardless of brand, shampoo every other day.

Wen makes a shampoo that won't suds up & is suppose to be great on color-treated hair. I tried it & yes my color looked great & seemed to last longer, but the poo didn't do anything, at all, for my hair.

IMO I really don't care for shampoo's that don't lather well. The suds & bubbles are what trap dirt and oils, and get your hair clean, so I see the difference when I use one of them... my hair doesn't look or feel as clean.

NYAngel98, have you tried the tresseme shampoo and conditoner for color treated hair? What do you think of it. I bought it but don't know if I really like it yet. I think I will try the herbal essense if you think it is alright with the laurel sulfate in it.

baby shampoo does not have laurel sulfate but it too won't wash well if you use hairspray and all that stuff!!

sodium lauryl sulfate is in just about every shampoo and body wash, and it is responsible for the suds. However, this ingredient was also pegged for being a major skin and eye irritant... I like using organic products that don't contain sodium laureth/lauryl sulfate at all since I have sensitive and somewhat allergic skin. The bottom line is ALWAYS check the labels. Even so-called "organics" or "all-natural" products have sodium lauryl sulfate so you have to scrutinize every label out there.

i have very dry hair and a sensitive scalp too. i found this info very helpful

Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate - very, very, harsh

Ammonium Laureth Sulfate- very harsh but better than the above

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate- better than the above, but still a little harsh

Sodium Laureth Sulfate-gentle, great pick!

TEA lauryl Sulfate-good pick

TEA Laureth Sulfate-good pick

Foaming occurs when surfactant (soap) molecules gather around air instead of oil. The result is bubbles. The air bubbles are using the surfactants that should be removing dirt and oil. lather is really somthing that people like the feel of, its not needed to clean hair.

If you want a little color 'kick' every so often... SexyHair makes SimplySexy "Color Me Sexy" --- which is a color enhancing shampoo. It comes in a range of colors, each doing a specific 'job' for a certain color. I have the Chocolate Kiss --- which helps neutalize red in brown hair.

Janelle, I was thinking about getting the pantene time renewal products, but it has ammoniium laurel sulfate, which a post below says is the harshest of the sulfates. So my question is.... it would really cause my color to fade bad, right???? I was really hoping to be able to use it. I was debating between that and redken products such as color extend.
