Is anyone concerned with the ingredients in their skin care and make up?

Over the years I have used multiple products from maybelline to clinique with just average results and always felt as though I had an oily mask on my face. I am a registered nurse and I've been noticing over the past several years that people are becoming sicker without explanation so it forced me to take a look at chemical toxins that we are putting into our bodies and on our bodies and know that this could be increasing our risk for ill health. I found out also about a rendering plant and for those of you who don't know what a rendering plant is...... it is a place where slaughter houses, meat markets, euthenized pets, and roadside kill are taken and cooked. The product that comes to the top is then removed and sold to be used in cosmetics. The thought of that was sickening because some of these animals had disease, or were treated with medications, or were rotted. Is this what we want to be putting on our faces?

I too started using organic skincare because I was tired of putting all kinds of chemicals on my skin and buying skin care with ingredients I couldn't even spell much less pronounce. I only wish that organic wasn't full of comapnies claming to be and they are not. I have learned so much over the years about what ingredients and fillers mean and how over the years our exposure to them can be harmful to our health. Let's keep our skin clean and healthy...Hooray for organic!!

Well I never really put much thought in it. I guess Im a bit naive that my highend makeup are more benefial than regular. But hey thats just me, although from now on Im going to ask if any animal products are in it...cause thats just sick.

I agree, over the last few years my skin is out of control, and all this started when I began using moisturizers and foundations. Before I turn 30, I never use moisturizers and makeup and my skin was flawless. All I did was wash my face and go. But when I turned 30 I freaked out and started using moisturizers because all the magazines said to do it. Within 6 months my face became a zit warzone, and I was too dense to realize it was the products I used (why should I since I was using high end products like Lancome and Estee Lauder). Until recently, after having tried every acne products in sight to return my face back to normal, I finally went back to my old routine of just washing my face and go. Now my skin is back to normal and healthy again.

I do use mineral makeup to cover up the acne scarring (thanks to my stupidity) and it's done well. It will take a long time for the scars to go away and my face to look flawless without makeup like before. But until then, at least I'm not doing more harm to it.

Im a total ingredient checking freak! lol. I have too be though as my skin is sensitive. I dont use a moisturiser only a eye gel when needed for my eye area. I use mineral makeup and a sensitive skin sunscreen

We are careful of what we eat and drink. So we also look at lables on everything. Try reading about cows milk. GROSS! I still use organic to cook or bake. I think diet anything is posion. It is nice to hear about other with the same outlook on things. Thanks for the great post!

I typically only use products that are safe to me as well as to the environment. We use some Melaleuca stuff, I use the minerals (now!), and before that, I was using Burt's Bees for everything except mascara and powder (Clinique). I like making my own cleaning products, lotions, soaps, etc. It's nice to know EXACTLY what's in them!

I am definitely aware of the ingredients that I use...and tho I love organic..there are synthetics that do well for me also...It still is a lot of trial and error with any product..but those things I know work against my skin I stay away from...

Mainly I just dont use companies that test on animals, there are so many that dont, and I dont understand why some do. I dont really pay attention to the ingredients though, I know what brands wont hurt my sensitive skin, and I dont break out.

Yea...another Arbonne lover! I too was hooked, once I finally got myself to try them. After reading and hearing so many raves, I finally took the dive and glad I did. So much so, that of course, I signed up.

There really is something to be said about what you put on your skin, go into your skin and bloodstream. If you don't beleive me, put a clove of garlic between your toes, I promise....15 minutes later, you will taste it! Scary huh?

I've recently become a lot more conscious of what ingredients are in my cosmetic products. I decided to switch over to things that aren't tested on animals, and then gradually phase myself into using strictly natural/organic products. I really don't like the idea of all those chemicals sitting on and sinking into my skin

And there's a lot of really gross animal by-products that get sold to cosmetic companies, like reyro pointed out. I'm an obsessive label checker.

Since I stopped using liquid foundations, I've noticed an improvement in my skin. I've been trying out mineral makeup [EDM], and although I haven't quite got the technique figured out, I can tell it's much MUCH better for my skin than the other crap I was using. I cheated once and put on some liquid foundation because I was feeling lazy, and the next day I had a fresh breakout of red, angry clogged pores and all that lovely stuff.

Lesson learned, I suppose!

I can't wait until I find some nice natural products that work for me, so I can toss out all my old chemical makeup and be done with it once and for all!

I really like Arbonne too and have been using their skincare line for almost two years. I like the fact that it's natural and not filled with lots of gross fillers. I have to admit though, I strayed and bought a skincare kit from Sephora. I may be switching back to Arbonne if it doesn't work, though.

the older i get, the more aware i am of what i put into and on my body.

i have switched my cleansing methods to the oil cleansing method using jojoba oil, along with mario badescu products; i can actually read and understand their ingredients!

i've also switched to mineral makeup for my face and have seen such a huge difference that i am hooked for life. the only area i allow myself any leeway would be in eye shadows and colors - i use what i like.

Thanks for posting this

I agree. Some of the things you find in skin care and make up products are not things I would want to put on my skin. I have gotten so picky about products these days. I will definitley check out the Arbonne product line!

Unfortunately, I don't check or concern myself with them! Probably not a good thing either!

Hi Hilary (Rejectstar) I think you'll really love the products from Eminence skin care. I just started using them on Sunday for the first time and I absolutely LOVE them. I love that my skin is consistently soft and healthy looking. It's an all natural/organic skin care line. I've had no reactions, no breakouts, and for me most importantly no rashes!! Mineral MU is awesome too. It just takes practice and the right brush. I have found that the new brush from Philosophy is totally awesome.
