I swore I wasn't gonna do it anymore but I gave in and went to a tanning salon today. The last time I went was before our cruise back in June and wasn't in the sun much this Summer so I am pretty pale right now. I'm just gonna go for the next 2 weeks before we go to Vegas or atleast that's what i've told myself. :icon_roll

I was actually starting to embrace my paler skin and then my esthetician goes, "Girrrl, you are losing all your color!" I was like, "Yeah, 'cause I stopped tanning." Then he tells me that my kind of complexion benefits from some color because otherwise I look sickly. :icon_conf I have alot of yellow undertones in my skin and have noticed that I look kinda jaundiced when i'm pale but I just don't want to damage my skin with the tanning.

i guess there is spray tans or bronzer if you're worried about your skin.

i get the same thing when i start losing my tan :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> not to mention that i can't use some foundations anymore because they're too dark. lol

I get the same way too Lisa... I have strong Olive/Yellow undertones and I look weird without some color.

Honestly I have started to fake bake in the winter, so I only get in the sun more often a few mos. out of the year... I like the Jergens Natural Glow stuff and the sunless tanners by Neutrogena.

I really hate the way I look and feel if I dont go tanning. I have really tried hard not to tan since the end of the summer but I swear i am feeling like crap :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> There are self tanners I like for my body but I have never found one for my face that didnt turn me orange! I also have alot of yellow undertones!

I am so afraid of tanning beds! Just the thought of cancer and wrinkles and burns :icon_eek: are enough to keep me away. I swear every girl in my school has gone at least once, but I know that I would look like a lobster if I tried to tan in a bed. It is one of those things (along with smoking) that I want to never do in my life

I know how you feel though, I have a couple friends who will be feeling awful, and go tanning as a pick-me-up. I think it can definitely be addictive for some people.

how about trying a self tanner? i used to work in a tanning salon and these people use to go everyday! it was nasty , thyre skin look like leather! hope you dont turn into one of those:icon_love

I also have alot of yellow undertones,i call it simpsons complexion, lol.

I would go tanning but just to get a nice glow.other than that i faux tan,or fake with a bronzer.:)i also worked it two different tanning salons, and the girls would tan everyday, they were totally addicted.

oh my goodness.thats sad.

when i worked i a tanning salon there was this on older women who would tan so much that her skin was pink.not a pretty pink, but like her skin melted off pink.my boss told her he could not let her tan at the salon for her own healths sake.she just found a new salon ,and pretty soon they stoped her too.the sick thing is that she just kept hoping from salon to salon, till they stopped her.:icon_eek::icon_eek:

geez some people. it's so sad that people care too much about trying to look good but end up the total opposite and destroying themselves. i use to tan all the time i'm not a dark person but tan easily and i get really dark. i moved to fl when i was 20 got sunburned 1 time. it left lines under my eyes and now you can see my pores on my cheeks(use to have flawless skin). i felt so old and pretty soon stopped tanning but every once in awhile and wore a high sunblock. now i always where spf even though i don't lay out. but to get a nice looking tan i use sunless tanning lotion. looks natural too.

i use to be so stupid and thought that tanning beds were better for you than the sun since you didn't have to stay in as long to get a good tan. boy was i wrong they're worse!:icon_eek:

I recently found... Daves Famous Moisture Tan, I love it so far, no transfer to clothes or sheets. The real test will be when I work out, with a white shirt. I will let you know. It doesnt smell real bad either and it turns brown not orange. You can find it on ebay, but type in fake bake, that is how I found it. I used to tan all the time but I got a melanoma on my chest from tanning bed, never again, plus I can tell where my chest has wrinkled some from them. It isn't worth it. Besides I know you are beautiful with or without a tan, I just use the sunless tanner, cause I am a redhead and very pale.

Thanks for all the replies ladies! I don't burn and I tan easily so I will just try to go a few times spaced out just to get a healthy glow. I used to be so addicted and tanned year round like almost everyday for several years. When I think back about it, it scares me and I hope nothing ends up showing up later from all that exposure.

Melissa, I can't believe that lady kept right on tanning after finding out she had skin cancer! That just goes to show how addictive it can become.

I have found a couple of natural looking fake tanners I liked but I just get tired of applying them, having them come off on my sheets, and the smell. I also wonder if some of those ingredients are harmful to my body when absorbed through the skin.

Wvpumpkin, i've seen that lotion on the internet before and it sounds really good. http://www.famousdavestanner.com/products.htm

Let me know how it does when you work out! I might buy some of that stuff.

I am so sad that you started tanning again! I used to be addicted to it and I thought I looked terrible without it. But you will look worse with skin cancer patches! I hate to be obnoxious, but I know how hard it is to stop. I am now a huge "brightening" product person. I use Clarins' stuff and I am really happy. Self tanners are awesome, too. They aren't like they used to be.

Snif.. I wish I could choose to tan or not to tan. But again I feel sorry for thsoe girls that get tanned and the color they get is "orange".

Ugh I feel sorry for those people that have that type of addiction. I saw a report about it on the news and apparently it really is possible to become addicted. Doesn't tanning release some sort of chemical in your body?

I don't think tanning once in a while in bad though. I think more then 2x week is asking for trouble! I enjoy going 1x week, it keeps me feeling "healthy".

Honestly after seeing how nasty Victoria Beckham has gotten with all the tanning she has done over the years, I am getting more and more careful with my skin!! I always ALWAYS wear sunblock during the day and am considering moving up to a spf 30 from spf 15.

I do enjoy laying out, but only get to do a few times a year at most, and always with a HIGH sunblock. Otherwise I stay outta the sun and fake bake... It is so much easier! I used to go to tanning beds for like 4-5 mos. but I realized I didn't like the expense and for some reason when I tan in a bed rather than in the sun, the tan color isn't very pretty...

It almost makes me feel like I look green rather than tan and golden... :icon_roll

aww, lisa, don't do that :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

i used to tan, or burn, with BABY OIL and NO sunblock during the summer. last summer, after i read up a lot on this stuff, i was even too embarrassed to go to the beach! i didn't go to the beach/pool ONCE last summer because i had to give my skin a break. now, i wear sunblock daily.

oh, and in my dermadoctor book, it says no one would get a wrinkle til they're 60 if they took care of their skin from the sun.

that's true the sun's rays and the tanning bed will make you age a lot faster. and you can tell seeing people young and old who's had too much of it. especially in old people.

I wore SPF 45 on my cruise and I still got a killer tan and I hardly laid out. I wanted to keep it up so I was gonna once every 2 weeks to the bronzing bed. I haven't been lately so I'm not diggin the way I look. I do have some self-tanner at home, but I don't even like applying lotion so I know how you feel Lisa. To be honest, I actually FEEL better when I get in the tanning bed.

With all the things that "cause cancer" there are some good points often left out. UVB Phototherapy is sometimes used to treat Psoriasis and Dermatitis and even jaundice in newborns. Light therapy (UV rays) is also used to treat symptoms of depression.

So, everything has it's ups and downs. Have you tried the spray tan that they do at the salons?

I haven't tried the spray tan yet.

I know what ya mean about how you FEEL better. I just went for 6 minutes the other day in a 12 minute bed and I actually felt better when I got out. Allie mentioned earlier how that tanning releases some kind of chemical or something. I'd never heard that but I bet it's true.
