I think its the baking soda (sodium bicarbonate = baking soda) that may be causing the positive effects. Try just baking soda and see if it works.

You might want to look into AHA Curapeel ampoules 7x2ml and/or Anti-Blemish Booster. They both are extremely effective with acne prone skin. the Curapeel contains 15% Alpha Hydroxy Acids.

I know of a few people who swear by using crushed aspirin mixed with water for their acne.
