Honestly? don't go for the lotiony types that will melt away after a full day.

my husband is the whitest white male in america to the point that in the summer he becomes the reddest redneck in all the land AND he does nothing but outdoor sports (motorcross, fishing, surfing, golf, whatever).

we found a product last year we can't live without- the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Mist Sunblock, SPF 30.

it's waterproof, ultrafine mist, no need to rub it in, can be put on over your make up, NON-COMEDOGENIC, and can be reapplied ANYWHERE all day without ever feeling like you have put anything on at all.

and it's cheap.

Hi I have sensitive, oily skin & Vanicream works well for me.

Vanicream Sunscreen Sport SPF 35 is free of dyes, fragrance and masking fragrance, lanolin, parabens, formaldehyde and other preservatives. This unique formula with transparent zinc oxide and octinoxate provides a light, elegant, transparent film that minimizes white residue. Ideal for daily use by the entire family. For all skin types.

For a really good, and effective sunscreen, the product must protect you agains both UVA and UVB rays. UVB rays are the ones that tan you, where as the UVA rays are the ones that cause wrinkles and sun spots.

Old formulations of sunscreen are effective at protecting you against UVB rays, but the ingredient used to protect you against UVA rays are actually not photostable (meaning it breaks down in the sun), as well as only lasting for about 2-3 hours.

Last year, some companies came out with a new formulation which has an ingredient called meroxyl, which IS photsable, and lasts for as long as the UVB protecting ingredients. One brand I KNOW has this ingredient for sure is La Roche. Its beginning to show up in more sunscreens now, so be sure to look in the ingredients list.

The sunscreen i'm using right now is La Roche SPF 45 with Meroxyl XL. Water resistant. Its not bad, but it hasnt broken me out, but still relatively sticky.

I think in addtion to meroxyl, helioplex is also supposed to be photostable and provide excellent protection against UVA rays. I just bought Neutrogena's Age Shield sunblock spf30 w/helioplex. It's oil-free, and so far, I like it. It hasn't made me shiny or broken me out. It also feels soothing, in a light sort of way.
