straighten and blow dry (with round brushes etc..) there hair with long hair, everytime i try my arms start to hurt, and its so hard too do it just rigth with out seeing it properly. how do you do it? any tricks?

I'm with you and I'm too lazy and impatient. My hair is right at the top of my butt...but it's already very straight. I know it would look better if I took the time to blowdry, but I wash and let it dry while I'm sleeping. Lazy, lazy, lazy.

Well when I'm blowdrying my hair it isn't to style it, its just because Im running late. I usually just sit on the toliet or vanity chair and DRY it upsidedown. That way my arms don't get tired and I can still straighten it :p /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I bend over and dry upside down to reach the hair on the back of my head. When I get tired of this, I put the blow dryer on the counter and use both hands to brush and guide the hair into the line of fire of the blowdryer. If the dryer starts to move, I use heavy objects to keep the dryer in a stationary place. If you've got some extra cash, I've seen (on TV) little blow dryer stands to hold the blowdryer. I hope that this helps.

Yeah! I'm curious to seee what the blow dry stand is like. I mive a lot when I blow dry so i wonder if it would still give me the lift I would need and all that. Youknow being spread out from being farther away then normal....anyone try this? Best of luck with you hair! Maybe try the fliping it over idea. I liked that when I had longer hair. My arms still get tired! lol! I guess you have to work up some new blow drying muscles! lol!

I've found it helps if I dry it in layers. I clip up all but the bottom layers. Dry the bottom, then let another layer down and dry that, etc.

When i straighten my hair (which is not often and i never blowdry)

I just kinda guess and keep on going.. just kinda see it as a good little arm workout

I do it like merrymeredith: I clip it into sections.

Although, if I'm in a rush, I blow dry it upside down until it's almost dry, and then finish it section by section. It can be a long process, though, but I wash my hair every other day, so at least I don't do it everyday.

my hair is up to my waist and i straighten it with a straightening iron and it takes me about half hour to 45 minutes and my arm doesnt get tired i guess im used to it since ive been doing it for about 10 years!!

What do you mean you can't "see it properly"? Just try pulling the hair in the back around in front of your shoulders. Then you should be able to dry it while still being able see it .... I don't know, it's been several years since I had really long hair, but I don't remember my arms getting sore when I blow-dried -- however my arms would get sore when I blow-dried and flat-ironed the shorter styles I had recently because I had to hold my arms so high in the air! lol

PS: When you get 800 posts, try watching Janelle's (NYAngel98) blow-drying video tutorial

Target has a brush that clamps shut around the hair. It's red in color, & for the life of me I can't remember what it is called. It was $9.99, and now it has gone down to $7.99.

ETA I checked my brush & it says "tourmaline ceramic" on it. It has red tourmaline as the backing to the bristles, and the handle is a black plastic.

i have really thick and long hair, so i usually separate it with elastics into a few ponytails and just straighten it that way.

I'm right there with you girl! My arms hurt too half way through the process! No matter what I do, they still shurt... Doesn't help that you wash it, condition it, comb it, then blow dry it, straighten it, and THEN use the curling iron *lmao* At least, that's about how it goes for me, and my hair almost reaches my waist. (It's at least that long since I'm WAY overdo for a relaxer, and I have about 2-3 inches of new growth).

lol! Thanks hun... I wish!! lol I'm still trying to grow it... finally passed that 'plateau' where it usually stops growing, so we'll see! lol
But I tend to pull the hair in the back of my head UPWARD & over the top of my head, so I can see it, cover more area, and it's a little easier on the arms.

I have the blowdryer stand. I maybe used it twice, if that. It's a pain in the @$$ if you ask me... lol the dryer is constantly blowing.... I ususally put the dryer down, roll the hair around the brush, THEN dry it following the brush. When it's in the stand, you have to duck out of the way of the air, then move around under the airflow to dry it top to bottom. It made my hair frizzier actually, because I had air blasting at it constantly. It would probably work better for people with short hair, that kind of just tousle and shake it dry.

I never really dealt with a lot of problems when I had hair down to my hips, I just had to chop it all off! I have tried to grow it again, but every time I do, it makes me realize how much I don't like having long hair because of the maintenance and the length of time it takes just to care for it. I prefer shorter hair, like to my shoulders. I know this doesn't really help, but I'm just saying!

I normally wash my hair befor i go to bed...then sleep with it when so it would be dry in the morning without the need to blowdry. then i clip it up in sections and flat iron it. If i have to dry it straight right away...i use this brush that looks like a flat iron...both sides have bristles...and section of my hair and blow dry it with that...its MUCH easier than using a round brush...and it comes out just as straight. I would then pass the flat iron to get that shiny, polished look.

i have long, really thick hair, and when i have time, i let it air dry till its at least half dry. then i don't have to blow dry for as long. also, i don't brush it while drying until it it almost completely dry. i just use my fingers to keep it untangled. then i heat style it straight with a straightening iron or wavy with a curling iron. also, i agree with you chic_chica, it's a lot less work if you use a paddle brush instead of a round brush.

well, you know...janelle has a blow drying tutorial...so post, post, post to get video access queen stat and view it for yourself! it is very helpful.
