I seem to have run into a bit of a hair coloring disaster...I have had my naturally brown hair bleached blonde (as well as Sun-In) for the past 2.5 years and I recently decided for a number of reasons ($ mainly) that I was going back to my natural color.

I'm very short on m oney and not working atm so going to the salon is not an option.

My BF said he'd buy me some drugstore box dye to use, so he helped pick out my closest match.

All the brands he picked out where in a medium ash brown shade. So he bought me Perfect 10 Nice&Easy 5A in Medium Ash Brown (Swift Chocolate), Last night I let him color my hair for me, and today I can see it in the sunlight. He bought me an extra box just in case, which was a good idea, because I'm going to need it!

I can see where my roots had stopped and blonde started becasue it is much lighter and more golden colored.....there are a few blonder streaks in places, but the lower half of my head....is very grayish/greeny tinted!!

I think my first mistake was using the ash tone color??

And maybe I should have done a redder toned brown first. I was confused about needed a red filler first or not....I got conflicting advice, and didn't really understand what a filler was...(Is it a regular box dye, in a red shade??)

So what do I do now?

I know i will have to color a second time, should I use the second box I have? or try to find a more reddish brown shade ( I can exchange the box I have for a different color).

Also should I color now, right away....or wait 2 weeks to give my hair a break.

My Bf says to just put the other box in my hair now, but he shaves his head, so he's no hairdresser

Please my hair looks awful and I'm very unhappy with it.

I LOVED the bleached blonde look on me, but the upkeep and money to keep it looking fab, was insane!!

HELP! What do I do to fix my hair!

I would add photos but I don't have a computer at the moment, so I'm stuck using my Wii

I have done the same thing many many years ago. I went from blonde to brown and it turned green. I could not wait two weeks and went out and got a reddish brown and did it the next day and it was a million times better. I hope that someone that works at a salon can help you out with giving you better answers. But I can say that it worked for me.

you will be fine doing it right away, (same amount of damge as a double process aka when you bleach than tone your hair).

i would get something with a redish base to counteract the green which will either give you a neutral color or a red tint to your hair

Personally I would take that box of color back, go to Sally's or whatever beauty supply is in your area and ask for a demi-permanent color in a warm neutral shade. the warm neutral is important, because you have stripped all the gold/red pigment out of your hair when you went blonde, so the ash had nothing to stick to to neutralize it, which is why it went green. You are going to have to put gold back into it to keep it from being ashy. I would not get another box color.

I've never seen a Sally's Beauty Supply, and the only things around me are Shoppers DrugMart, WalMart...etc. No big Beauty supply shops.

Since the shade I used was Clairol Nice & Easy Perfect 10 in 5A (the manufactuers website says it minimizes red & orange) would it be okay to follow up today, with a box of Clairol N&E Perfect 10 4R Dark Auburn, the website says Add's rich red tones.

You can see the shades on Clairols website. I would post a link or pictures, but I can't atm.

AHH! I can't believe I turned my beautiful and expensive blonde hair, green, gray and blottchy!! ARG!

the 4R should do it.

oh i forgot to mention you could also try something like nice and easy which will give you the same results it is just a toner esentialy

no need to wait 2 weeks, you'll go crazy trying to wait and looking at your green ends anyway.

if you can, get a protein treatment (nexxus emergencee is one) and use it on your hair before you color again, and getting a brown that has red tones should get rid of the green.

All of you ladies are so wonderful! This is why I love MUT! Thank you for your imput ladies

So I'm going to get a box of Perfect 10 in 4R today. (Dark Auburn) and I have a half full tube of Joico K-Pak Reconstruct, in my shower. Should I use my K-Pak and then Dove Moisurizing Conditioner before re-coloring?

For some odd reason, I tend to think using my K-Pak causes more split ends.....this may just be my imagination though.

Id reccomend a shade darker too as it fades so quick, I was blonde and I wanted to go back to my natural color and it must have a hint of red in it, but after 4 weeks I was blonde again! So I went a shade darker than the first time and its gripped really well

i would use the conditoner and such after you color, just cuase it can prevent color from taking properly.

and i think that going the shade darker is a great idea since it will fade a little quicker than usual since your hair is so porous.

Thank you ladies!

I went and bought the 4R shade, in dark auburn.

It totally neutualized the gray/green tint, and gave my hair a warn red tone.

I can deal with the Red for a few weeks. Especially since it is Fall, it almost looks ike I ment to do it!

I'm going to give my hair 2 weeks to recover.....possibly do a K-pak treatment in the mean-time, and then recolor with a dark brown shade.

My BF is in LUV with the dark color on me!

He can't keep his hands off me! Ha! Who knew all it took was a box of hair dye to spice things up a bit!!

yes! ash is always a no no! Its okay though, its fixable. Pick up a very strong hair lightener ( like what comes in the streaking kits ) and run it through your hair. Dont saturate it. Just enough so that youve got it a general blened look. Next pick up a redish/golden colored box color to act as a toner for you. You may not have the exact color you want but the green will be gone. You can always, after a week, do hightlights in very big pieces so that your hair has a general white-ish blond look to it!

I'm glad you fixed the problem. And glad your BF likes it
