The older I get, the more trouble I have with winter-dry skin, especially my hands. I have tried so many hand creams but still I end up with these dry patches, peeling skin, and bleeding cracks (I know it's gross).

I've tried a lot of the remedies that the magazines tell you to use, like udder cream, Neutrogena hand cream, The Body Shop Almond Hand Cream, and Aquaphor, along with hand creams from places like Bath & Body Works. The best thing I've tried so far is Aquaphor (which is made my Eucerin) but it is made mostly of Vaseline so it leaves my hands greasy.

Does anyone have suggestions for a healing hand cream for super dry skin? I don't even care how much it costs at this point...my hands hurt so bad that I will pay lots of $$$ for something that works.

My favorite is Biomains by Biotherm. It feels a little greasy at first, but it's the only hand cream I've found that feels like it actually absorbs into my skin instead of sitting on the surface. Plus it helps to strengthen my nails. I can tell when I haven't been using it regularly because my nails start breaking really easily and I get a bunch of hangnails.

i use the Body Shops hemp handline.

you could also try some burts bees stuff, they have awsome stuff.

I found a chapter out of "The Doctors Book of Home Remedies" for chapped hands, and it had tons of interesting advice, like using Crisco to moisturize, lol. Yeah, that one was strange, but take a look, maybe the other tips will help.

Also, my friend, who is a student nurse, uses Borage Dry Skin Therapy Hand Cream by a company called Shikai - she says it's the best stuff she's used and doesn't leave her hands greasy at all. Plus, she likes that the company uses organic, natural ingredients. Good luck!

Have you tried sleeping with gloves on? Wet your hands, lightly pat dry and slather on crisco or vaseline then put on gloves and go to sleep....or even sitting and watch TV or something for an hour or so. I've done it for my feet and it really does work.

Well, you really should not ever use any criso, vaseline, or any type of mineral oils on your skin as it doesn't allow for the tranfer of oxygen and clogs your pores and can actually make dry skin conditions worse! Your skin needs to breathe to be healthy!

I really like Arbonne hand cream. It is not oily, absorbs right into the skin. Since it absorbs into the skin, it will last for a few hand washings too. I slather it on right before I go to bed at night.

I apologize, I realize that I mis-spoke in my previous post. Those things do not actually clog your pores, rather, they sit on top of your skin so that your skin can't breathe. I don't think that they are really going to cause breakouts on your hands/feet.

Thank you for pointing that out!

Wow, this was so helpful! After reading the article, I think I may have hand eczema. There are little bubbly bumps all along the side of my right index finger. That is the only place I see them, but I know that eczema has to be treated professionally. Thanks for the advice!

Yep, sounds like eczema. I suffer from it myself, gets worse in the winter. Your Dermatologist should be able to help you out. Good Luck!

I'm a HUGE fan of Crabtree & Evelyn Hand creams. They even last through 1-2 hand washings! I have Summer Hill scented, and it's AWESOME!

I'm glad the article helped, and hopefully you've gotten to the source of your chronically dry hands now! Good luck with it!

I know that a lot of women at my work use Cetaphil.

Perhaps you also might consider try using hand cleanser for dry skin aside from finding your best hand cream. Remember that water (specially winter) and any hand wash detergent could dry out our hand skin, so mild hand cleanser might help a bit. I can only suggest C.O. Bigelow Chapped Hands Cleanser and I really like it. I use it because we don't use a dishwasher at home so I need to keep my hands soft and not dry, I really hate the dry feeling.
