I have been coloring my hair for almost 20 years. I have always done it myself. My mom still has her licence but hasn't done hair since I was really little. I don't always trust her advice. Anyway I finnally found my shade of red. Trouble is it's a temporary. I don't want to deal with the fade and recoloring every two weeks or less. So.....

Can I mix a temporary color with a developer to get a more permanent result? What about a semi permanent?

I have no idea about the developer thing. It is possible that your temporary dye comes in a permanent shade by the same company. I would call the hair color hotline on the box and ask if they have a permanent shade that is the equivalent of your temporary shade.

I wouldn't recommend mixing a permanent and a temporary color, but definitely look into a semi-permanent color.

This probably won't help much, but about a year ago I found my shade of red. Everyone warned that I would constantly have to touch it up and/or go to the salon and have it done ( I color myself at home.) Anyways, I did it permanent, and you know, yea it fades. But I only recolor every 6-8 weeks. I use the shampoo formulated for my red shade and once a week I use a good color depositing conditioner (biolage). Makes my hair soft and shiny. So maybe you could do permanent?? It's not that much extra work, if you really like the color that much.

The problem is the permanent colors I have found are not red enough for me. Too light, too orange, too brown. I love the look of "Wow, now that's red!!" I also like purples, but again same problem, semi permanent or tem color. I don't mind a 4-6 week upkeep 'cause these colors tend to fade faster than most. The transfer to my clothes, shower, towels plus the super fast fade is a major pain. I have trouble wearing white shirts and I already clean up after 3 other people. Just looking for some alternatives without too much color compromise. Thanks!

Yea the fading and transfer sucks. Hope someone offers some advice that can help you. I tried that semi perm route and it lasted only a week. Hope you can find something that's better!

i would go wi/ a semi permanent or demi-permanent haircolor. i don't know much abt

permanent haircolor

you can use 10 or 20 volume developer for deposit only but temporary or permanet it dont matter any red color is gonna fade

The permanent Feria Power Reds are pretty intense. Have you tried those already? Unfortunately any red color will fade quickly. I hope you can find one that works for you.

I was really excieted when I viewed the Feria color selection online. The color didn't even come close to the intensity I had hoped for. I know the color on the box is different than the results but it still didn't give me results.

I am OK with some fading. My hair grows fast and I hate the look at my roots thing, so I feel the need to color every 4 to 6 weeks anyway. Thanks for all the advice. I will keep checking back for more ideas.

I do have a Sally's nearby. Does anyone know of a great red from there?
