I have about shoulder length hair, well just a little bit past. It has basically been that way all my life and i want it to grow really long. my hair seems to only grow fast when it is braided and i am not too fond about braids. I take hair growth vitamins and they don't seem to show a big difference.. It breaks off easily and i seem to get split ends.. does anyone have tips on getting my hair to grow.

Summer heat and sweat is not the best for hair growth. I would continue to pamper your hair and wait out the change of seasons. You're going to have to be patient...

this is gonna sound gross but i dont use shampoo. i use a cheap silicon free conditioner like suave. i smother my hair with it, leave it on for a few minutes and rinse really really well. i can feel why my hair is full rinsed, and the i use a good conditioner on my poor bleached hair.

it seems gross but in chemistry you learn "like dissolves like" (thats why water cant clean oil) and the moisturisers in conditoner help break down hair grease. shampoos have solvents, which clean very well but they strip the hair of all oils or moisture holding agents.

for hair growth protiens is essential..include sprouts in your diet...get regular trims, to avoid more damage n some patience :)

1) Have you tried wearing buns or try to protect your ends other than wearing braids? You are at the length where it can be very difficult to get over that hump.

2). You need a balance between moisture and protein in your hair regime.

3). If you have split ends you need a trim to prevent any further damage from taking place so that you can stop the hair from splitting all the way up the root.

4) How is your diet and health? Eating healthy and excerising will help your hair tremendously.

5). Stay away from heat if you don't have to use it. Try airdrying instead.

The girls gave great suggestions! Hair grows in 'cycles'... yours could be in a rest state. Mine was the same length for years and is now just finally statring to grow longer... with no extra treatments.
