Hi everyone. I am desperate for some hair help. My hair color is naturally light brown to dark blonde. I had light highlights put in for years until recently i wanted something different. i wanted to go a little darker so he made my base a little darker and put in some blonde highlights still. it still looked light overall though. heres my problem: everywhere i have gone, my hair ends up with a tint of orange to it. i dont know why it always looks orange. i have tried like 3 different HIGH end beverly hills salons and have not been satisified. i have been paying big bucks and all i end up with is a tint of orange in my hair. has this happened to anyone else? is it the way they are coloring it? it has happened like 3 times now. any advice would be great!!

Is it possible you have natural red or red-orange highlights that you haven't noticed? Or it could be the sun. I have natural dark brown hair with red highlights, but whenever I'd visited Puerto Rico, my hair looks like a firey orange color... No idea why though! Also, and this is a BIG guess, if you have any Irish, Scottish, Welsh, etc. in your blood, that could be part of it. My husband has Welsh and English in him, and he has lots of random reddish-orange hairs in his mustache and goatee...

A lot of people with naturally darker hair have red undertones... so it's not uncommon to see them when a new color oxidizes. Also being in the sun, some products, and just the elements in general can lighten it up as well. When you get a color, they can put in an anti-reddening additive that can help a bit, and it also might be the color you are getting. They should know you lighten up orange when you go to the salon, so they can help pick a color with the right base colors. (To help cancel out reds & oranges). You can also pick up a color shampoo, (I like Color Me Sexy --- from SimplySexyHair) I use the Chocolate Kiss one that neutralizes red and brassiness in brown hair. You can also try going one shade darker than normal.
