I finally decided on a cut (haven't colored yet). Thanks for the suggestions in helping me choose! Here's a pic of the style. Mine is just a bit shorter version, because my top layers weren't long enough yet. When I style it, though, it turns out more smooth/shiny. I don't want to lose the shine, but need more separation/pieceyness/texture. Seems when I add product to get texture, it starts looking rough. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

A good pomade or wax tousled around the ends works for me. Just be careful not to apply too much, or you'll end up with greasy looking hair. It doesn't take a lot. Also if you're able to skip washings, do so. It is actually better for your hair, and it will look more piecey. You can use talcum powder if your roots happen to get oily. I would also suggest a mousse or root lifter to add some volume, and a flexible hold hairspray to finish the look.
