I am hoping I can get some advice about going blonde. I tried a week ago using a L'Oreal Excellence cream, it lightened my hair somewhat and it felt nice and shiny, but today I tried a stronger one, L'Oreal Blondissimo lightest ash blonde, expecting a dramatic result.

It has again lightened it, but I do not think I would be considered blonde yet.

I wondered where I am going wrong maybe because I put alot of protector creams and stuff in my hair to try and keep it in good condition. This week I had some redken anti snap and john frieda overnight repair in my hair when I tried to die it. My hairdresser had told me that the more products I had in my hair when dying it the better for keeping its condition ok, so I didnt wash it before applying the blondissimo.

However now I think that by having so much in my hair it did not allow the blondissimo to work to its full effect.

My question is, if I apply another blondissimo on clean hair will it go lighter and also how long after having applied the blondissimo this time should I wait before applying another. I do not really want all my hair to fall out, but I am a bit impatient

the more products you have in your hair when you dye it will keep it in better condition only cause they keep the dye from penetrating the cuticule.

you are not even suposed to use conditioner before you dye your hair

as far as how long should you wait doing it any more than just once every 3 months puts you at risk for breakage... weather it will or not depends on your individual hair and is not something we can judge unless we can touch your hair

Thanks, I think I will wait a while then and try again without too many products on, so that the dye can penetrate better. It has gone an ok color, but it is sort of light brown rather than blonde.

I would love to go to the hairdressers, as I know they could get it how I want it with no experimenting, but it is £70 for the dye, then £20 for a cut and if that were a one off it would be ok, but if the hairdresser does it I would have to return each time for the roots and I just couldnt afford it. My hair grows really fast, they will need doing every six weeks at least I reckon.

Anyway thanks for the advice, I appreciate it

I'd always recommend you go to a pro when going blonde. It may seem costly, but frankly, its worth it, because blonde is a dangerous and fickle color that often requires an awful lot of upkeep, and besides... You want to go for a shade that suits you without damaging your hair too much! Go to a really, really good colorist, and splurge. I know it seems counter intuitive, but all the money you spend on trying to go blonde and all the products you buy to fix your hair will probably add up to about the same price anyway... Not to mention the fact that getting your hair done is much more relaxing, and less messy and wasteful.

I am going to my hairdressers tomorrow and have booked them to do it.

I did want to all along really but its just the cost, I get charged extra for having longer hair (see my photo, its not that long) , so instead of the normal £50 I get charged £63.

It is the long term cost that worries me, getting the roots done every couple of months. But I asked about their trainee school and I can get a trainee to do it for less they said, so I am having it done properly to start and then a trainee to do the roots each time.

Is it normal to be charged extra in a hair dressers for longer hair (see photo...not that long)

I got my hair to go blonde and updated my avatar pic

I took your advice and after trying myself went to the hairdresser, she put loads of highlights over what I did and it is now definitely blonde and I am happy!
