On Saturday I am going to Benefit with my friend to get my brows waxed & tinted. It's my first time so I want to know if there is something I should do to prepare. Should I wear eye make up? Should I be prepared for pain...lol?

Good luck! I have always wanted to do it but I am such a chicken. I hope it goes well.

Hi,

As a waxer, I know that they will remove any makeup near the brow area. If you are truly worried about the pain, just make sure they a) Cut the hair down a bit before they start removing it; B) Immediately press down on the newly waxed with their fingers. c) Have cold mini compresses handy to apply to the newly waxed area. d) Cold stones also work well in place of mini compresses.

These are some of the tricks I use when waxing clients.

Thanks for the advice!

Well that's cool, good luck! Just relax and follow Leza's advice. Personally i can't wax because my skin is way too sensitive and it burns the skin on my face. So tell them to be very careful.

I just got my brows waxed for the first time about a month ago. I thought it was going to hurt more, but it was nothing more than a stinging feeling that lingered for a bit. It was too bad and it was over quickly. The area around my brows was just red for a while afterwards.

Maybe you should let the waxer know that it's your first time getting your borws waxed, chances are they'll try to be extra gentle. And make sure they know what you want to do with your brows, iwhat kind of shape, thickness, etc. I've known a couple of people who's eyebrows have gotten butchered because the waxer took too much off.

Good luck!

Good luck!

I agree with this Marisol. It might be a good idea to even bring a picture of brow looks you like. The first time I got waxed I told her what I wanted but what she gave me wasn't what I wanted. I should have known because she had pencil brows. I like thicker fuller brows with a arch toward to outside not upside down U's over my eyes.
I wouldn't wear makeup but maybe bring a little with you to put on a little later. My brows stay red for quite awhile, so if you are planning anything afterwards, you'll want to bring some makeup with you.

Oh, I heard ibuprophin can help with any pain or swelling.

I've never had mine waxed. Good luck with your brow waxing and let us know how it goes!

Hello...I've been getting my brows waxed for years and it doesn't hurt that much, more like a bandaid being pulled...take some ibuprofen about two hours before you go...

I haven't had my brows waxed before but I did them once on my upper lip.. It didn't hurt much or anything...

Don't wear any eye make up. If it's your first time, you may experience some discomfort. Take an Ibuprofen an hour before your appointment if you can. Keep a 1 percent hydrocortisone cream on hand for after the waxing. This will help soothe the irritated skin. Goood luck!

as everyone has said no eye makeup and make sure you have an example of what you want. you should do just fine! good luck!

Ooh good luck Mari!! I don't have much advice for you...I would opt against a lot of eye makeup, maybe some Waterproof mascara and that's really it.

Thanks for the suggestions ladies! I did tell the girl on the phone that this was my first time getting my brows done so she made sure she noted that on the appointment book.

I will take before and after pics to show you all!

Have fun Marisol! I wouldn't necessarily consider it pain moreso than discomfort. Definitely don't wear a lot of eye makeup. Just some waterproof mascara as Leila suggested would work. I'd definitely have them do a patch test somewhere first. I only say that because I've have mine waxed w/ sugar wax and honey wax before, and I'm allergic to the sugar waxes. I break out in a mini-rash every time it's used on me... That aside, have fun and I can't wait to see pics!

Benefit? are you talking about the brand Benefit? or this is just a place where you guys get ur eyebrows done?

How fun! I've never had mine waxed before... Good luck

Hi Marisol,

Here are a few other things:

1) Do not repeat do not exfoliate your skin 24 hrs before or after waxing.

2) Do not wax if you are using Retin-A or a generic version. You must stop taking Retin-A two weeks prior to waxing.

3) Do not wax if you are using Accutane or a generic version. You must stop using Accutane for 6 months before waxing.

4) If your brow hair is dense, have the brow specialist steam or place warm compresses over the area first. This will open the pores and eases the removal of hair.

5) If you're a diabetic or asthmatic, let your waxing specialist know. Actually people with diabetes or asthma should not be waxed because a) diabetics are know having poor healing capabilities; and B) for an asthmatic, waxing can cause an asthma attack.

Instead of waxing, diabetics and asthmatics can be sugared. It's a similar technique to waxing.

Just some tips from your friendly neighborhood waxer.
