Definitely wear sunblock every day and reapply during the day since it sounds like you only have a few. As I've gotten older I've been finding more because 1) I didn't use sunblock most of my life and 2) skin thins as you age and becomes more sensitive to sunlight and global warming.
Here's the rub about freckles: I've tried light, medium and heavy coverage foundations/concealers and they do poorly to okay when I check in the mirror. If I took a photo, it's usually as if I have no freckles.
So the thing is about if you care more about face-to-face interactions or photos. If it's the latter, basic foundation will do. Most people won't really notice when you're talking to them though the more sun protection you use, it'll help take care of it. Skin brighteners will hasten cell turnover to non-freckled skin, but it takes a while.
