for now I've been just trying to minimize my face mimics

I've started doing it, but on and off for 2 weeks. No results yet, but I've read on other forums that they work, so...

I should have started doing that decades ago! It's actually quite entertaining to watch! lol

Facial exercises to minimize wrinkles? Flies in the face of Botox doesn't it?

Botox prevents muscles from moving - and wrinkles are not so obvious.

I wonder if gum chewers have less lines around their mouths?

Face yoga/facial muscles are all the same And they are a stupid gimmick.

I think Botox is great for wrinkles that are caused by muscles moving (one day will give it a go.. if only it costed less and lasted longer!), but there is also a problem or firmness of your skin as after 45, it seems that gravity stars pulling your face down and botox wouldnt change it. So face yoga might be good to reinforce the inner layers of your skin to minimize this particular side-effect of aging... So perhaps the two things complement each other. And also yoga might bring more blood with oxigen to your face which I suppose is not a bad thing at all.

First the Penguins loose.... Now your saying I can't exersize my wrinkles away? sigh....

Lol Karren!

Wrinkles are caused by sun damage, lack of collagen and other supportive tissue.

Facial exercises do absolutely nothing to counteract these issues.

In fact, they make the situation worse.

It's your face. If you think these needlessly silly exercises help, be my guest.

I do massages (from the Skincare revolution by Chizu Saeki), they target the dermis and the muscles, to prevent sagging. I also do lymph massages. They make me feel relaxed and they help the products sink in. My skin feels good and firmer, i think that's really what i look for in these massages. From what i looked in this video, the movements only target the epidermis, in which case, they are totally useless.

I think the idea is to build up the muscle structure under the skin. Muscles will atrophy from lack of use and age. Build muscle and stretch the skin over a firmer frame. It's not just wrinkles that it is intended to help, like a firmer jawline will also lessen the appearance of aging. Nothing like sagging, droopy cheeks to announce you are getting old. Just like saggy upper arms.

Muscles will atrophy from lack of use? C'mon now.

We use our facial muscles constantly, through out the day.

Now if we had a stroke, bell's palsy or overdosed on botox, then we might not be able to use specific facial muscles.

But then, botox freezes muscles so that they don't move.

So does using botox make one look older/aged or does it make someone look more youthful?

ITA! Dr Schultz (who I think is very knowledgeable. I wished I had a dermatologist like that near me) did a video on facial exercises:
The Effects of Facial Exercises on Your Facial Skin - DermTV, Internet

I´m sure gentle facial massages probably won´t cause wrinkles, but I wouldn´t think of doing actual facial exercises.

The video is a riot. In theory it sounds like a good idea, but after watching the video I think I'll pass.

I will say though that for anyone who suffers from TMJ or jaw pain that some facial exercises can help with that situation. But I've never heard of it for wrinkles.

So true. Collagen fibers start breaking down in your mid to late 20s I believe, and sun exposure and certain excessive facial expressions (such as squinting, frowning, lifting your eyebrows etc) can accelerate that process. And then there´s elastin breakdown too. First you get lines, then wrinkles, then your skin starts to sag.
I haven´t heard of facial muscles playing a big role in the ageing process

After 2 weeks with Bells... My whole face was saging!! Not fun! Took a while to get it back to normal after the nerve started firing again...

Sorry to hear that you had Bell's Karren. It is a terrible experience to be sure.

I had a good friend in college develop Bell's. Falling asleep, eating and drinking were awful for him...

It took him several months to fully recover.

From what i have researched on this topic the idea of facial exercises is worthless.

Interesting point-of-view.
