I really need all the help you can give. OK here is my problem: My skin is very dry on my body. It itches soooooooooo bad. I keep on scratching and it causes my all these little red bumps all over.. I dont know if its eczema.. my doctor has prescribed me cream to pu onm my stomach ( because this place is worst then the others... I scratch so much its almost bleeding :scared: ) he prescribed cetaphil and it somewhat works... but it isnt gone entirely. I would like to try it on the rest of my body but I dont know if its worth it.. anyone got feedback? I currently use avveno relieving cream for itchy skin but it doesnt work for me:madno: Please.... anyone got advice?

Sounds as if it may be your cleanser. What products are you using to bathe? Try using Dove bodywash for sensitive skin or Nutrium. This quenched my dry body skin. I used to itch like crazy. After bathing I drench myself with Aveeno Daily Moisture Lotion. Dove is a non-soap line of cleansers that many dermatoligist recommend. Soap can be very drying.

I am sorry about your itchy skin-I know how that must feel! It could be keratosis peralisis..maybe, that's just a guess. Calamine lotion works when I get an itch. People think you can only use it when you get poison ivy, but that is untrue! It's a great alternative for sunburnt skin, itchy skin, etc. I really think you should go back to your doctor though and find out what exactly the skin condition is. Then you can figure out how to treat it. Cetaphil would probably be ok, because it's a pretty mild cleanser/lotion. You may consider going to a dermatologist so you can get more specialized treatment. Hope you feel better sweetie.

I have the same kinda thing, I seem to have dry patches around my body mostly on my legs and stomach. They're horrible and always itchy, my doctor gave me some cream which seems to calm it down but not totally. I feel your pain :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> x

Aveeno Oatmeal Baths works very well for me for this kind of problem. Try a hydrocortisone cream too?

Some products to try:

Aveeno Soothing Bath Treatment (blue accent, not green)

Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Foaming Bath

Aveeno Moisturizing Shower & Bath oil

Aveeno Daily Moisturizing lotion, fragrance free

Palmer's shea butter formula (in a jar)

Aveeno skin relief body wash, fragrance free

or

Dove Body Wash for Sensitive Skin

Also, here is a link. Even if you do not have eczema, the ideas recommended here are sound ideas.

I know I sound like an advertisement for aveeno, but the colloidal oatmeal that they put in their products seems to help my skin stop itching. If I were you, I would start with these 3 products & you should find that the itching is reduced by a noticeable degree.

Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Foaming Bath (use like a shower gel)

Aveeno Moisturizing Shower & Bath oil (at end of shower - 1st moisturizing layer applied)

Aveeno Daily Moisturizing lotion, fragrance free (applied after you're out of the shower - 2nd layer of moisture)

Put the lotion on again in the PM before bedtime. Also, you may want to keep a tube of cortisone cream on hand for those spots that won't let up with the itching.

ETA I just discovered while surfing the Internet that Aveeno has a new lotion :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> called Aveeno Active Naturals (blue accent on this bottle) Skin Relief lotion. As you can see in the link below, it has more of the oat ingredient in it & near to the top of the ingredient listing, plus shea butter. I definitely plan to try this one out myself.

This is true, and that is addressed in that link I put in my post above. I changed to a dye-free, fragrance free detergent.

ETA like Pauline mentions below about the extra rinse cycle - I started doing that as well.

Also, I might as well add that you can buy fragrance free shampoo/cond. at places like Whole Foods/Wild Oats. One of my favorites is Avalon Organics (cobalt blue bottle) aloe vera jojoba fragrance free.

Hi jessiee, it might be worth taking some fish oil suppliments,or other suppliments like eveing primrose oil, that will help moisturise your dry skin from within. After applying bodyoil, you could also apply a moisturiser for extra moisturising benefits.I always set my washing machine to extra rinse (to make sure laundry is well rinsed from detergent) as i agree detergent's can play havoc on your skin. Hope your skin feel's better soon.

I have dermatis & exemia. Try drinking more water. This will hydrate your skin naturally. Dove is what I use. Any any product with fragrance makes my skin worse.

i SWEAR by aveeno's skin relief moisturizer with menthol. i had the same thing and this took 1 day to kick in and my skin is as good as new.

good luck!

I use this too and i love it. I say just try not to scratch i know its really hard but thats what makes it really bad.

Have you tried Eucerin? I used the face moisterizer for dry skin when I was on accutane the area around my mouth was red and peeling b/c it was soo dry, so I am guessing the body lotion is just as good!

I had dry skin so bad that I had the change my sheets every day because theré was enough dead skin left on the sheets in the am to build a whole nother person eeewww! It was from accutane. Lots of good info here in what the others have said. Here's what I did

Loofah...you gotta loofa!

Shower/bathe in as cool of a water as you can stand, the hotter it is the more moisture it sucks out

Take and Aveeno Oatmeal bath once or twice a week

When you get out of the shower/bath, apply baby oil (while your wet) and leave it on for a few minutes....maybe towel dry your hair or something...and then dry off and immediately apply Cetaphil Cream Moisturizer heavily, or a heavy shea butter cream. You gotta use a cream, no lotion, it's not heavy enough.

A lot of people don't realize that you MUST apply moisturizer while you skin is still damp in order for it to work....it's actually a barrier to hold in the body's moisture.....it doesn't actually do the moisturizing.

Cleopatra would add milk to her bath to moisturise her skin.I do too! It works, so does dried milk!!!

The best option to mosturize your skin isn't the common moisturizers. Instead of it , you must look after therapeutic lotions , products with at least 10% urea or ammonium lactate (don't worry! it's excellent, not strange - here's a link to one product, i never used it, since it's not available here, but's just an exemple : http://www.drugstore.com/products/pr...BUY-PLST-0-CAT)

To make the mosturizing more effective you have to apply it right after shower , with the skin still damp, ALL the times you have shower. The problem of using oil as a moisturizer is that on summer/humidity, it's easier to have clogged pores, or even other kinds of problems, like fungical diseases.

:iagree: Yeah, the moisturizer will act as a barrier, and the best ones will reconstitute the lipidic layer that every skin have, making it feel softer :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> I used a cream with 10% urea on my legs, that are as dry as the sahara (they aren't dryer because i live in a hot and humid place) and it made it sooooooooooooooooo soft , i was amazed to see the things my professors taught me at dermatology classes actually working :flowers:

I recommend Aquaphor. It's made by Eucerin and can be found in drugstores or at Target/Wal-Mart.

There is also a lotion called DML that is for extremely sensitive skin. I don't think it requires a prescription, but I believe it is kept behind the pharmacy counter and you have to ask for it.
