I found this cream by Aveeno and it work immediately to get rid of the itchiness. What a relief. When I run my fingers over my face in the cheek area, I still feel bumps, however. I'm going to the dermotologist this week and asking if he can give me something to heal this faster & also to check on this mole I have. Thanks folks. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I am hispanic and am also cursed with a hairy face. I have been waxing it for years and I still get the irritation. The best thing to do is about 2 hours before you get waxed is to wash your face and use an acne cream in the "to be waxed" areas. It cuts down the irritation and redness. But if you can find someone in your area that does threading (An Indian technique) to remove the hair, you should have NO irritation :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> Good luck!

i am so sorry you had to deal with this..waxing on the face can be so painful! paula begoun puts out a product called skin calming lotion that works like a charm on exfoliated, lasered or waxed skin--it also works well on red irritated skin of any kind...

you can also make your own skin calming lotion by putting 1 asprin tablet into 2 oz of water with a squirt of aloe vera pure gel...let the aspirin dissolve then apply with a pad like a toner...salacylic acid is very calming to the skin at low doses.

i would also recommend either bleaching the hair or having it lasered--waxing grows back stubbly...

Since waxing is rather expensive, the best thing that I have found that removes the "peach fuzz" off of your face is a little tool called Finishing Touch. It vibrates the hair off. You can get it at Walgreens or Walmart and it is only 10 dollars. Best thing I have used!

I hear ya Amethyst... It happened to me too. My skin is not usually sensitive, but when I get waxed, brows, lip, whatever I swell up with hives sooo bad. :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> I went for a brow wax once and the girl waxed my ENTIRE face!!! My skin was 2 different colors, and looked like I was stung by a million bees. I had a moustache and beard of hivey-looking bumps. And the skin was almost 'sticky' feeling... (And yea, they itched like crazy) I put on Tea Tree oil ... it seemed to help a bit. But it still took like 2-3 days before I went out in public again. :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

So I went to the dermotologist and told him what happened. He prescribed me a cream called "Aclovate" - its a synthetic steroid cream. :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I really don't like the idea of using this. Am I being overly paranoid? I have visions of getting a fat neck or growing more hair.....he said to apply it to my cheeks and then he gave me this unscented moisturizer to use also (which is the one I use already so that one is ok).

But I'm really hesistant to use this topical steroid cream....

The doctor also told me to come back in 2 weeks because sometimes this type of thing can turn into "acne" :wassatt: :sadno: :icon_eek:

I hope not! I don't need to deal with acne at the age of 44 :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

what to do - what to do!!:icon_roll :sadno:

I agree with you. I'd rather use a natural or homeopathic remedy. That's why I haven't filled this prescription yet.

Do you think tea tree oil is better ?

I stopped using the Aveeno-calamine because thank goodness the itching has stopped. But it still is rough/slightly red/dry flaky and slightly bumpy (rashy looking but less so than last week). The doc said it was definitely a reaction from the waxing at the salon.

I am definitely not doing that anymore!

I have the Eucerin Calming Cream, and I have tons of other creams at home. I have an arsenal of lotions in my bathroom. LOL. Like you said though, I just don't want to make it worse. My face skin is normally smooth on my cheeks and this feels rough and bumpy.

I really hope I don't break out in acne like he said *may* or *could* happen.

I have some organic chamomile tea bags at home I could use. How's that?

Here's what I found on this cream:

When you use Aclovate, you inevitably absorb some of the medication through your skin and into the bloodstream. Too much absorption can lead to unwanted side effects elsewhere in the body. To keep this problem to a minimum, avoid using large amounts of Aclovate over large areas, and do not cover it with airtight dressings such as plastic wrap or adhesive bandages unless specifically told to by your doctor.

Aclovate is for external use only. Do not let the cream or ointment get into your eyes. Avoid using the product on your face, underarms, or groin, unless the doctor tells you to. Do not use Aclovate to treat diaper rash or apply it in the diaper area; waterproof diapers or plastic pants can increase unwanted absorption of Aclovate.

If your skin is inflamed or you have some other skin condition, tell your doctor. You may absorb more drug than usual.

If you use Aclovate over large areas of skin for prolonged periods of time, the amount of hormone absorbed into your bloodstream may eventually lead to Cushing's syndrome: a moon-faced appearance, fattened neck and trunk, and purplish streaks on the skin. :scared:

Children, because of their relatively larger ratio of skin surface to body weight, are particularly susceptible to overabsorption of hormone from Aclovate. The drug should not be used on children under 1 year of age or for more than 3 weeks in children older than 1 year.

No serious systemic side effects are expected unless you are using a large amount of alclometasone topical for a long period of time. If the drug is being absorbed by the body you may experience blurred vision, halos around lights, an irregular heartbeat, insomnia, mood changes, weight gain, or fatigue. If you experience any unusual side effects, notify your doctor.• Less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. You may experience some redness, blistering, burning, itching, or peeling of the skin being treated. Continue to use alclometasone topical and talk to your doctor.• Other local side effects may also occur, especially with prolonged use of alclometasone topical. These may include thinning of the skin, prolonged redness, and stretch marks.• Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.

Dude, this is so weird! Not trying to dog your doctor or anything..I mean I loves doctors but....is it really that bad? Um, like Kim said, and you also, steroid cream is heavy duty stuffs..I mean, ferhevinnsakes, you (they) did do a number on your skin, but.??..I think the doc is only trying to give you some relief..but keep in mind that doctors are also given sometimes....uh *cough* kickbacks from companies to really use their products.and I'm talking like cruises and stuff. Can you get a second opinion? I mean, if it gets worse?

If a second doc suggest steroid cream, then ok .. I guess? Or a Naturopathic doctor? :wassatt:

You had a bad reaction to some waxing, that's all. Steroid stuff can just be such a Pandora's Box...I just don't want to see you go down that road if you don't have to..:icon_neut

I don't think I am going to use it. He gave me the same medicine when my eczema acted up and I didn't use it. I used the Calming Lotion by Eucerin instead (even though its not meant for the face).

I just panicked when he said it could turn into acne! That's the last thing I need is to revert back to acne!

I think I will just stop using face makeup for a while (only eye makeup) and use an unscented cream on my face - and see what happens.

I don't even like the word *steroid cream*. :icon_eek:

Well today there is no itchiness at all and upon closer inspection the red bumps are fading. I did not and will not fill that prescription for Aclovate but instead keep doing the home remedy thing.

Thanks Naturally and everyone for your advice ! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

When you was you are exfoliating the skin at the same time, just like when you shave. So that is definetely why the skin is lighter in that area. Also when you wax you want to make sure that you do not go in direct sunlight or you will get hyperpigmentation. I would not reccomend putting tea tree oil on your face becuase tea tree oil is very antiseptic and is very stong, you coul d have an adverse reaction to it. you want to find azulene, or lavender oil, essential oils of course. The lavendar works well on pretty much any skin irritations and most people will not have any adverse reaction to it, also the azulene is cooling and calming and does tone down redness.

I hope this helps.

You are probably having an allergic reaction. Try some hydrocortisone, or Ambesol (it's originally for toothaches) to dull the irritation. I use Ambesol all the time to pluck my eyebrows so it definitely does work.
