Having trouble choosing an ideal hairstyle? First, decide which attitude you want to project on your big day. Then check out our suggestions to find the effect that fits the bill. PS: Don't chance a hair horror story -- splurge on a stylist and do a trial run with him or her a few weeks before the big event.

Ultraromantic

Ideal hairstyle: To look like a princess, wear your hair curly and half up (for an innocent effect) and half down (to work a Rapunzel thing). For sophisticated texture, have your stylist create a few thick twists before pulling it back.

Weather advisory: One whiff of humidity and those curls could fall apart. Use water-repelling, frizz-fighting products, such as John Sahag No Frizz, $13.50, and Wella Lifetex Wellness Personal Trainer, $12.99.

Touch-up trick: If your ringlets start to get unruly, rub an antifrizz cream (ask your maid of honor to keep one handy) like Fresh Hair Cream, $20, between your hands and gently pass them over individual curls.

Glamorous & Sophisticated

Ideal hairstyle: For an elegant look, wear a sleek updo. Make sure your mane man uses a root-boosting spray and a body-building mousse to give hair "grip," so it's easier to secure, says NYC salon owner Yann Varin.

Weather advisory: One of the benefits of this style is that it can withstand monsoonlike weather. "Because an updo is so tightly secured, there is no room for the hair to change texture or get frizzy," says Varin.

Touch-up trick: After shakin' it on the dance floor, those pieces along your hairline could get fuzzy. To fix, rub a little pomade like Physique Precision Wax, $17, between your fingers, then smooth them over flyaways.

Sexy & Stunning

Ideal hairstyle: Vixenish waves will make your man want to skip to the honeymoon. Depending on your hair type, either loosen tight curls or enhance your natural waves. For stick-straight strands, use a large-barrel curling iron.

Weather advisory: This sexy style is best suited for indoor, climate-controlled areas. "If your wedding is outside and it's humid or rainy, it'll be hard to control," says Varin.

Touch-up trick: Reinvigorate waves that have fallen flat by spritzing a soft-hold hair spray on your hands, then gently scrunching hair. We like Clinique Natural Hold Soft-Finish Hair Spray, $14.50.

Sweet & Simple

Ideal hairstyle: For low-maintenance girls who want to look just like themselves on a great day, create a clean look by wearing your hair down and pulled off your face with a feminine headband.

Weather advisory: This is a very safe and secure style unless you're faced with high winds, which could whip long strands into your lip gloss.

Touch-up trick: If hair in the front of your head starts to come unhinged and get puffy, grab a wide-tooth comb and, while holding the band in place, gently comb hair from directly behind the band toward the crown. It'll tighten strands in front for a more polished look.

Great post!

Charmaine, at my wedding, the longest layers of my hair were barely touching my shoulders, they might have even been above my shoulders. I bought a small tiara that looked more like a beaded headband, and wore a side part (which was a change from usual center part, it took a lot of hairspray to keep it parted on the side!) and had the hairstylist flip the ends out. Pretty much my usual hairstyle, but with a side part and a nicer flip on the end. Plus everything was glued with hairspray so it didn't move :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> Oh, and I also wore a simple veil attached toward the back of my head, about 2-3 inches behind the tiara, but I took the veil off for the reception so it wouldn't get in the cake or something, lol. I loved my hairstyle and thought it fit perfectly with our summer afternoon church wedding! (We had a mix of a formal, traditional religious ceremony with an informal cake-and-punch reception in the church gym! The bridal party wore traditional gowns and tuxes, but the guests wore normal Sunday church clothes.)

Attached is the inspiration picture for my wedding hair... but my hair is a lot thicker than this gal's (I think she must have more layers than me) and my ends were flipped out more than hers.

Just for kicks, here is another short-hair pic I had saved on my computer... but if you're really interested in finding wedding hair styles, just go to a wedding message board and ask about short hair, there will be other short-haired brides that can help you! That's where I got these pictures!
