What is the difference in these two types of hair color. Also can you use a semi on hair that has had permanent hair color on it first.

Semi usually lasts about 25-30 shampoos, demi is like 6-10. Semi is deposit only... and demi usually just coats a temporary color or sheen. You can use a semi over a permanent... but if your hair is very dry or porous, it can last longer than the 25-30 shampoos.

I only know of natural instincts. I always have trouble finding my color too.

I think you are mistaking Demi for Temporary.Demi is pretty much the same thing as Semi only w/ a less volume of developer. It last almost as long.

Temporary color has no developer and coats the hair w/ out penetrating the cuticle. last 1-10 days

Demi has a deposit only developer . last up to 4 weeks.

Semi is also a deposit only but has a stronger developer. last 4-6 weeks

Here is what I found on the Matrix web site:

Do you know what demi-permanent color is?

Demi-permanent color penetrates the hair shaft slightly, depositing color that is the same darkness level or darker than your natural hair color. Color is long-lasting (four to six weeks), and there's no demarcation line.

No... you do need a developer with a demi... but I've rarely seen one last as long as a semi...

I got this information directly form Matrix web site and my cosmetology reference book. I've been doing hair for 10 years. I use Paul Mitchell demi (PM shines) It uses a developer. And the products I've used before do too. PM Shines deleloper is called processing liquid.

All demi's will need some sort of a developer --- I've never used Paul Mitchell's... but usually any other brand's developer peroxide vol. levels were very low ... not much color left after 3 weeks or so of regular shampooing.
