A month from now I'm going to dye my hair. And I'm waiting a month because my hair is black, [dyed black but starting to lighten to my dark brown color] and I want it dyed really light. So everyday until my appointment I'm going to stop straightning/curling my hair and let it air dry and get deep conditioning treatments every week. Then cut off the dead ends.
My hair is this length + color...

And I want somewhere inbetween these colors...
Basically a light brown with lots of honey blond natural looking highlights.
So my questions are, how damaged do you think my hair will be afterwards? [i usually straighten my hair at most 3 times a week.]
Will the bleach make my hair fall out? [i heard some horror stories]
Is there anything I can do to minimize damage?
Annnd do you think such a warm hair color like that, would look alright on me?
Thanks in advance.

I think your hair looks beautiful the way it is now. Don't forget about the expense you are going to incur if you get and keep it lightened, IMHO.

I think it'd be really harsh on your hair to try and lighten it that much. But everyone's hair is different, some people find their hair gets more damaged than others.

I think the colour you chose would probably look fine on you. I really do like the look you've got going on right now, though. I love your makeup in that first picture, you look radiant!

I don't think it will be a problem at all. If you have someone do it that knows what they are doing it should be pretty easy to get it that color from black with no noticeable damage. Although I would imagine it would take at least two trips, I wouldn't trust someone who claims they can do it in one visit.

It will be rather damaged, I had dyed black hair and that color you want is my current color, I had to have 3 sessions of lifting the black dye.

They will reccomend deep con treatments etc.. and you may have to lose a few inches off your length, It will be very dry and brittle for a while, mine was like straw for a while but now its softer. anymore questions just give me a message

BTW: The bleach did make some of my hair fall out, it went chewing gum like and snapped, but this was mainly due to having someone different do it on my last session and she left it on 10 more mins than it was supposed to be!

your hair is very pretty the color it is now it has shine and looks healthy

to lift the black and go as light as you want there will be some damage and possible breakage i personely wouldnt do it bleach is very harsh and it will dry your hair, if you want the dark to fade get you some prell shampoo that stuff will strip wax off the floor

i would wait untill it fades and get high lights which would be less damage and mantinence than all over color

Thats why i never dye my hair black its just too hard to get it out. I also dont like bleach because it kills my hair. Take pics so we can see the results. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

i never dyed my hair, so i can't really give advice, but you look beautiful with your actual look, and looks to me the color you want would suit you too, so good luck.

My hair was colored jet black and I wanted to go up to a chesnut brown. My hairdresser refused to do it although it had mostly grown out.

I'm guessing you hair will be damaged if you wanna go that light. They'll have to bleach your hair and then tone/color it.

I suggest lightening your color gradually.

Your best bet is to get this done professionally. If they have to use bleach, it can cause damage. However, a smart beautician will do a strand test first to make sure it won't burn your hair out. Another option is to gradually lighten it over time, and then once you hair is the color you want it, add the highlights.

Definitely lay off on the heat styling tools as much as possible, as well as anything else that can damage your hair from daily use. A deep conditioning treatment before coloring is also a very good idea.

Aww thanks for the compliments & advice ladies. I think I'am going to get it done.

Just without makeup I'm sooo pale and lately my skin has been really dull and the black hair just makes me look worse.

Plus no matter what I use [clarifying shampoos, vinegar, head and shoulders ect] my hair always seems to have this "bulidup" that's especially noticeable in black hair.

Annnd my hair has been black for 4 years now and I'm getting bored with it.

Definatly go for it! You'll be happy with the results even though It will be damaged for a while, I was black for 6 years and Im so happy I finally went for the change too.

Yayyy I'm glad you were happy with the results!

I'll be sure to post pics when It's done! =)

Vinager certanly won't do the job, when you have all this buildup you need alcaline products that opens the hair cuticle for a deep cleansing, and vinager closes the cuticle because of its low pH. So the clarifying shampoo should work. Try using a different brand ;) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Now talking about lightening your hair, i think it won't damage that much, your hair looks healthy and the shade you want is not that light.

Since you have dyed your hair black i think you should go with bleaching powder and peroxide.

You'll probably end up with either red or orange hair.

If you get red hair you have to use a hair dye with green pigments, something like 7.7 or 8.7 (depends on how lght you wanna go).

If your hair turns out orange then you gotta use a dye with blue pigments, that would be the ash hue. I think a 7.11 would work.

Just be carefull because some dyes like color perfect have their numbers all messed up

Wow, i ended up writing a book here hahahah

I hope that it helps you, i sure wish someone had told me all that when i first started to bleach my hair hahahah
