Does shampoos have cones in them, or is it just certain conditioners. Also which sulfate is the worst and which is the best in the shampoos?

Most shampoos nowadays seem to have cones in them, as well as conditioners. Even many styling products seem to have cones in them. It is one big cone-fest.

Sweetpeacurli's Silly Little Site <- This link can help you get started with identifying if a product has a cone in it or not.

I have made it a point to use a cone-free s&c, but will let it slide on a styling product (only one, though).

Most health store lines are cone-free, but I have noticed that those lines are now starting to change their formulas and put cones in them. That's why it is a good idea to be able to identify them in the ingredient list.

I would avoid sodium lauryl sulfate (particularly if you are coloring your hair), but have found that sodium laureth sulfate seems to be gentle on my scalp and hair. For me, ammonium lauryl sulfate is still too drying for me to use.

Sorry, I kind of feel dumb asking this :doze: , but what exactly are cones?? I figured they are an ingrediant in hair products, but are thye bad?? What do they do?? Thanks!

Cones are "silicones" in products. Like dimethicone, etc, anything that ends with cone.

Supposedly it coats your hair to make it shiny, etc, and therefore it seals moisture out of the hair, causing dryness/damage. I don't know that much about it, if this really happens or not.

Couldn't it just as easily be argued that it seals moisture into the hair rather than "it seals moisture out of the hair"? Just wondering...

Also, the only way to truly know if a shampoo or conditioner has cones in it is to check the bottle. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I always say this and most magazines say this too. But some people don't think that far ahead.

Almost all of my haircare products have cones in them and my hair is just fine.

i just checked my favorite shampoo : no cones ^^ (it's kinda normal though, it's a very gentle shampoo that can be used in hair treatments).
