Ok so I have an appointment next week friday with a lady at a top salon in San Francisco (would definitely NOT trust at home kits for this).....I just get so bored with my hair, and I've dyed it pretty much every color out there except blonde. I'm thinking a dark blonde, really light brown......I have fair/moderate skin, (around NC25, in the summer, can get lighter/darker)...with yellow undertones and light brown freckles.....

and my hair is REALLY thick, (but thin strands of hair- I'm half asian)...definitely not the silky hair--it's wavy/straight, can hold curls well...So what do you girls think?

The thing is, my hair is like dark brown right now, and I hate the contrast, of my dark hair with my light skin, so that's one of the main reasons I want to take the plunge.

And also, my hair is in good condition....not many split ends, not that damaged, looks healthy...is VERY VERY full, I don't do much to it, except 1. color, 2. RARELY do I straighten/curl

thanx!

of course you coulldd but depending on how dark your hair is you might have to dye it in steps.

depending on colours in your hair as well it can go brassy and coppery so you might have to dye it a couple times before you get the blonde that you want. also who you go to though can determine how well they are able to do it.

but i say go for it. it might fry your hair but i love doing drastic things to my hair.

thanks for the reply!
I'm going to a lady who is known for best working with blonde colors so I expect she'll be an expert with it...Money is no object when dealing with this for me...

I'm scared of the damage...I'll have to look into some new shampoos/conditioners, I'll ask her at the salon.

well you sound like you should be in good hands
if your hair is healthy now and not damaged then you should be fine since it might be the first major dye job. but i know the salon would recommend there stuff but shopper`s drug mart i find here has a line called marc anthony repair and theres shampoo, conditioner and a cream for in between in the shower and it works wonders and i have some pretty fried hair

I don't see why you would have a problem, unless you're one of the unfortunate people who can't handle bleach.

you can go blonde i am sure, it will prob take two times depending n how resistand your hair is and you may have to lose some length cause the bleach will damage your hair, just make sure whne you maintain it you have them just touch up the roots and just use the toner to blend it

I agree with Rosie... A photo would be nice... There's some online sites that will let you change your hair style and color and see if you like them... Can't remember the link right now....

i think clairol has a color lab thingy that lets you change your hair color.

i think that may be what karren is refering to

I color my hair every color under the sun too. I am a blonde and I love my hair dark! Makes my blue eyes pop! It takes time to get my blonde back. I would maybe go with a heavy highlight. Because as someone stated in a previous post, you might not get the blonde you want right away without doing major hair damage. So go gradual with the blonde. Deff post pictures. I would post pic of all my shades but I don't have enough posts yet...

ya i would say its fine seem that your hair is in good condition

..a picture would be good so we can see if it would suit you though

Honestly, I think just about anyone can go blonde if they want to. It's all about finding the blonde shade that looks best on you. And, for those with darker hair, taking the time to do it little by little so as not to damage the hair too much.

But it's definitely possible, and it sounds like the lady you're going to see knows what she's doing. So I wouldn't be too worried about it!

So I've noticed everyone is saying this so far...but from the reviews i've read about from the salon it sounds like the woman I'm going to is a miracle worker...or a hair goddess as they call her...and she takes anyone to blonde in one day....look at this from her website:
"Kimberly Givsan has been providing customers with “just the

right†cut and color, for over 18 years. Her hair and style

education, include Graham Webb, Toni & Guy, Paul

Mitchell, L’Oreal, and more. She has a never-ending pursuit

to give you personal attention and customer satisfaction.

Specializing in corrective color – she has the skill and talent

of being able to take black hair to blond without damage."

I guess this is good?

I think that it is possible to take black hair to blonde, but that a lot o hair dressers don't have the time or patience to do so. Most salons I've had help me get rid of brown hair-dye have slapped some bleach mixed with 40 vol on my head despite my telling them that my hair actually lifts really easily. So I do think that the process would take some specializing that only a high-priced salon would really have the motive to do.

No offense to her, but not everyone goes from black to blonde easily. Some people have hair that cannot take bleach, at all. Hopefully, you'll be lucky and can handle it. But, I find it to be BS for her to claim to do it without damage.

I'm SCARED!! lol

You shouldn't be scared, a good colorist will stop at the first sign of damage and correct from there.

Hi,

I recenty went blonde via wigs from Reni of Paris, it is honey blonde and the style is called " Shannon ". At my age of 60 I am afraid to "mess " with my hair color wise, so I avoid trying to color it. I love my " Shannon " and I feel very sexy wearing it !
