can anyone give me some tips when blow drying my own hair in order to get super straight and sleek hair and to avoid getting the ends burnt and making them look really split! I use an intensive treatment each time i wash my hair and use serum while blow drying my hair. The hair dryer is ionic and ceramic and the brush i use is ceramic.

If you use heat styling products, you're eventually going to get split ends... it's pretty enivitable. But, you can prevent them..

1. Get regular trims... even if it's just a teeny tiny amount, it will keep the ends from splitting, and the split from travelling up the hair shaft.

2. When you blowdry or flat iron, don't keep the heat too close or for too long... the ends are more porous than the root/shaft, so it doesn't need much heat or styling time to be "finished".

3. Use a deep conditioner on your ends once a week, and some hot oil treatments every so often.

4. Be gentle when brushing, snags and knots cause breakage...

5. Spray a heat protectant or leave-in conditioner on the ends before you style.

Hope this helps!

hi everyone thanks for your replies!

Thanks so much Janelle for the tips (sorry for taking so long to reply - i had my first week at uni so I was kind of busy)

So i have bought KMS's Flat Out Lite Relaxing Creme and Wieghtless Shine Spray! I have also bought a straightening brush made by Kent - it's ceramic and I think it will make blow drying much easier (I hope)! But i'm sure it is easier to use than my barrel brush!!! The product number for the Kent ceramic straightening brush is KB2054 if you want to try to google it! I also found one by Denman (no D79) and it's a thermo straightening brush but I went for the ceramic one instread!

I'll be trying them out today and i'll see how it goes coz i can't be bothered to keep going to the hairdresser twice a week to blow dry my hair!

I also ordered Matrix's sleek.look shampoo, conditioner and serum.

I also would like to start taking some supplements for my hair and nails - apparently GNC have some really good ones but I can't find any websites that ship to Malta!!!!

hi i've just blowdried my hair using the products i mentioned in the above post and also using the new straightening brush i bought and ............. WOW my hair is soooooo straight and amazing - it looks like i've just come out of the hairdresser's!

Anyone who doesnt have a clue how to blow dry hair (just like me - i've been attempting to blow dry my hair with a barrel brush for years but still end up with wavy hair!) should start using a straightening brush - it's so great! The Kent one I'm using is amazing - i so can't believe it! I use it with my Parlux 3200 Compact Ceramic & Ionic hair dryer!!!!

If anyone needs any more info please let me know! I'm so happy!!!!!!!

Thanks for the advice, it helped a little more.

I still have trouble blowdrying my hair straight without my sister helping me, so I stick with my iron. But if I do blowdry I use a round brush and heat-protective spray.

So a few of you guys use serum before you blowdry? Also, any product I can use before heat styling, that'll make my hair even straighter? Like I'm looking for a product to use before I iron my hair.

Cool, thanks for the info! I googled your brush and here is a picture if anyone is interested:

The products and brush I am currently using work pretty well (better than my old products!) but I still might look into a brush like this -- I have a few sections of hair that are naturally extra wavy and they don't always stay straight

Conair makes a brush like that...the "Get it Straight" brush - (around $7) I haven't tried it - mainly because those types of bristles make my hair get frizzy and leave me with lots of static. But if anyone is looking for it - try drugstores... I've seen it all over.

What kind of brush? Flat paddle, round, or the straightening ones?
