Hey girls, I'm contemplating getting the super popular side swept bangs, they look so pretty! I was wondering though, does anyone who wears bangs experience breakouts on their forehead as a result of it? I have super sensitive skin thats already oily enough and I'm hesitant about wearing my hair with bangs if it's going to jack up my skin. Are there any products that help with minimizing breakouts...like a line of nonacnegenic hair products?

i think bangs helped me not get acne on my forehead. As long as u don't put a lot of products in the bangs, i'm sure u'll be fine. I've had bangs for years and no acne from it

Well actually it is believed that hair in the face can cause the skin in that area to act up. Since the skin is covered it can harbor humidity, dirt and oil. But I had no, of not minimal, breakouts because of my bangs. If you want to keep your bangs and not get breakouts (if thats what your worried about) then do what I do: Periodically swipe the area that your bangs are covering with oil-blooting sheets throughout the day. It'll keep your skin in check and you can still strut the style!

i would think it's okay just as long as the products you use in your hair (if any) don't get on the face.

you know i have found this to be true, from experience and other people, also my 13 year old son has long hair (shoulder length) and he has alot of little pimples all around his forhead hairline, so im guessing its the hair and the fact that hes 13!!LOL!!

I did when I had bangs. I'm fourteen though, so it might be because I'm still in my teens.

If you use oil/cream/silicon on the bangs , it can transfer to the skin underneath and clog pores, and create pimples on the area. It works the same way that some makeup that clog the pores of the face.

I had pimples when I had bangs. However, I am a teen and my skin was already oily skin, so the bangs probably didn't cause the pimples, but they surely didn't help.

yah ... when i was younger , Junior High, i had pimples .. but it wasn't from the bangs .... it's just puberty

You should be ok as long as you aren't constantly running your hands through them (oil transfer from hands to hair... then from hair to skin) Keep your forehead clean, and definitly try to keep it as oil free as possible.

I have sideswept bangs and I haven't had any problems with them and I also have oily skin from sweating, working and stuff. The one thing that is avoid wearing a hat if you plan on doing some very physical stuff, etc: exercising, because that broke my forehead out. But other than that, go for it!

Also! If you notice your bangs get oily, smooth some corn starch onto them (not on your scalp though) and just brush it out. It takes the oil out.

Hair products can definitely clog your pores, and my dermatologist was very strict on what hair products I could use! His rules were:

  • Some shampoos can clog your pores. He gave me a list of non-comedogenic shampoos, but sadly the only ones I can remember are Herbal Essence and Pert. Shampoo can get on your face when you rinse (regardless of whether you have bangs or not) so you want to use a non-comedogenic one.
  • All conditioners can clog your pores. Only use conditioner on the length of your hair, the part that would be in a ponytail, so that you never get conditioner on your face when you rinse your hair. (Besides, conditioner on the roots just weighs down your hair anyway!) Likewise, you don't want to use the 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioners since it will get on your face.
  • Hairsprays and other products can also clog pores. Always sheild your skin with your hand when spraying hairspray.
Hope that helps!

Good Tips Girl-Geek. Now if I can pry the 2-in-1 from my husband's hands while he's in the shower...

I have bangs though they are more along my cheeks I was worried about that too. This info was a big help to me to understand a little about acne from the Proactive website. I use there stuff but this info is for anyone wondering how pimples work.

http://www.proactiv.com/about/happen...5ad9fb5c6ba780

A blemish begins approximately 2-3 weeks before it appears on your skin's surface. It starts in your sebaceous hair follicles, the tiny holes commonly called pores. Here’s how it happens: Pore Deep within each follicle, your sebaceous glands are working to produce sebum, the oil that keeps your skin moist and pliable. Clogged Pore As your skin renews itself; the old cells die and slough off. When cells are shed unevenly, they clump together with natural skin oil to form a plug — much like a cork in a bottle. The Birth of a Blemish This plug, or comedo, traps oil and bacteria inside the follicle. As the skin continues to produce oil, the pore swells...and bacteria flourish.

They go on to say how they are the solution for the acne but you basically want to exfoliate on a regular basis to make sure you aren't getting the dead skin cells clogging your pores and you need a good toner to remove the dead skin cells and a moisturizer to help repair all the damage your pores have taken. Most skin care regiments work the same they have a wash a toner and a moisturizer most have microdermabration or exfoliating products now as well. This thread should probably be in skin care but I think it helps with the question. I am up late and rambling but know this info made me feel a lot better about getting bangs myself.

well my nana used to nag and nag my sister. She has bangs and has a little, while I have none and have bangs as well. I suppose it just varies on the person and how oily your skin is?

just keep ur face clean...during night pin up the bangs backwards so dat it does'nt lie on ur forehead n let ur skin breathe

I've had no problems thus far!!!
