I have had TERRIBLE skin for what seems like FOREVER. No products are helping me, foundation never works, and it seems like my acne is getting worse each day. I am DONE with acne and I hate, hate, hate it! I would do anything for clear, flawless skin, and it seems like I'm the only girl in the world with bad skin. It's everywhere, mostly on my forehead and the right side of my head. I get made fun of, and it's terrible! I really really REALLY need help. ANYONE'S help! Can you recommend products for me? I don't know what I'm going wrong, I use Neotrogena moisterizer day and night, I wash my face with liquid Neotrogena, and I keep my hair away and out of my face. I've tried EVERYTHING. I'm just about ready to give up. PLEASE HELP!!

Have you tried Proactiv? I used it many years ago when it first came out and it cleared up my skin like that!

Its cheap now (appx 19 dollars).

I didn't start getting bad acne until college, at which point I started breaking out like crazy. Before, I'd get compliments on how nice my skin looked, but then once I graduated high school my skin got bad enough that I started wearing full-coverage foundation (I never wore foundation in high school, ever). It's only gotten better recently by using benzoyl peroxide all over my face 2x a day (using acne.org regimen), and if I skip even one application I always regret it later because of the breakouts I get. I'm scared it'll stop working, but I'm hoping it won't, or that I'll grow out of this within the next few years.

I went through the same thing as you. Nothing was working, and I was thinking about going to a derm to get prescription medication...but it turns out that $7 Neutrogena On the Spot works just as well as, if not better than, any prescription med would have. (At least for me)

I don't have acne (or haven't had serious acne since my last few years of high school, I'm now about to turn 24), but I did have mild/moderate acne (whiteheads primarily) concentrated especially in my T-Zone between the ages of 12 and 16. I also still deal with bacne, especially in the Summer. This is all anecdotal, so please take it all with a grain of salt. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> My skin had cleared up considerably by age 16 or 17 - which was probably a combination of hormones (my entire body went through massive changes in early puberty, but the ones right at the end easily matched it), cutting out red meat, and washing my hair everyday. (I was actually completely veggie for a good 6 or 7 months. I still rarely, if ever, eat red meat, but I have introduced fish & poultry back into my diet). I know hairstylists and gurus are all about having the natural oils coating your hair scalp, but I had a very oily scalp and dealt with dandruff for a while. Exacerbated by very fine hair. Now, I can get away with going a couple of days, but during the week when I've used hair product, I do make sure to wash it probably more than average. While my acne was never cystic or serious, it did take a toll on my confidence and skin. One of the worst things I ever did - and which I'm probably still paying the price for - is going overboard, I have sensitive skin, and using astringents might've gotten rid of the acne, but I'm also convinced it also made any redness and dryness I have now, even worse. I notice my skin gets angry - clogged - even now, when I go too far with product. Harsh, abrasive 'acne control' cleansers do not work; it's been at least 3 or 4 years since I used a foaming cleanser, and my skin has cleared up considerably. Now, I just stick to lotion/milk cleansers (at night. LRP's Toleraine is one of my favourites for makeup removal, and Caudalie's Gentle Cleanser is another favourite in Winter), oil cleansers (if I've used foundation - Lancome's and Laneige's Moisturizing are my two standbys), and cleansing waters in the AM (w00t, Bioderma!). I think going too far with acne-prevention does double damage for my skin - dries it out, causes it to produce more oil, and then, I'm breaking out. The only acne product I have is generic Rx tretonin gel, for the odd time I break out around my period. I do not use this everyday. Brands that have really helped have been the sensitive, pharmaceutical brands - the aforementioned Bioderma & LRP, as well as Avene. While I can use products from some other more commercial brands (Caudalie, Cetaphil moisturizers, Lancome, Clarins, Kibio), I really have to do my research. I also tend to stick with the products formulated for dry skin in these lines. The internet has truly been a great help. I also found it was impossible, when dealing with acne, to find a lot of acne-control lines that dealt with sensitive skin. Likewise, it's a bit annoying (even as someone with dry skin) to see all the cheaper, sensitive skin lines (Nivea, Olay) to assume that if you're sensitive, you must also be dry. Anywho, if you need more specifics, feel free to ask. And I apologize for the mountain of text... ;) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Id say try proactiv or a system like that, and if that doesn't work go to the doctor and they can prescribe a medication for you. On top of that just try to take good care of your skin, and find products that work for you and don't break you out further.  Wash your face every single night, and make sure you moisturize well, exfoliate, all that stuff.  Drinking lots of water and trying to have a healthy diet/ sleep schedule also seems to help me a lot, but I just have the occasional breakouts. I suppose if you have serious genetic or hormonal acne that wouldn't make as much of a difference.

If you feel like you've already tried everything and nothing works your best bet would be to visit the derm. or doctor.

lol the answer options are kinda all the same. I have a few here and there.I used to have it bad and THE ONLY THING that helped me was going to a PRIVATE dermatoligist that put me on accutane. I know some people are posting horrible stories about this treatment but I only had dry skin. I wasn't suicidal or whatever people are writing.Within 3 months I was completely clear! It's been 4 years now, I'm not completely acne free but compared to how it used to be, I'm kinda happy! 1 or 3 small pimples on my face is better than a bunch of cysts. :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

edit: Is it true that accutane is banned in USA? That's kinda sad because this stuff is a miracle if used correctly!

I never had bad acne, just the usual...you've got a date with the hottest guy ever, that means the morning of the date you will get a giant pimple on your forehead like a third eye, or right on the tip of your nose. Yeah, it was like that.

What I know is from having friends with bad acne and from reading online. The one thing I've learned is what Maris told you, be careful of over cleansing, and using harsh cleansers. Your skin will be very angry with you and create more oil causing more acne. Use gentle cleansers that won't strip your skin and spot treatment with benzoil peroxide. This will only work on surface pimples, if you have cystic acne, you will probably need to see a dermatologist.

Yeah, I remember a time where i was breaking out a lot. It definitely does bother me, everyone wants to have flawless skin. You should try pro active, it should work. Also remember to wash & moisturize your face daily, exfoliate a few times a week. It might also be the make- up your wearing? If it seems to be getting worse or not get better at all, your best bet is to see a dermatologist. Good Luck!

Hey I use black soap and clean and clear foaming facial cleanser. Its worked well with preventing breakouts and clearing up hyper pigmentation. I have a youtube channel where I show some great products to use for skin care and also what makeup is best for full coverage www.youtube.com/sherryblossombeauty

I also vote you try Proactive. I have not had any issues with acne, but my sisters did. They both swear by Proactive. I think it is available in most malls and online. Sometimes you can find kiosks in the malls that carry proactive. Definitly look into that, if nothing else is working for you.

I tried Proactive when I had mild acne, it worked for a while but a few months later I started getting cysts! I'm not sure what to think about Proactive...I'm never gonna use again just to be safe.

Yes, i agree with you, these have helped me control my teen acne on the long term. The rest, while clearing momentarily my skin, was so harsh in the end i had to use harsher products to get some effect and only got an oilier, more sensitive skin. If you can get Bioderma, their mattifying moisturizer is quite good, LRP's moisturizer for oily skins is good too.

Otherwise, as spot treatment, i can suggest grapefruit essential oil, or lemon, or lavender. You apply just one drop on the pimple, and preferably at night as both the grapefruit and lemon essential oils are phototoxic. It helps getting of them much faster.

Anyway, i'd recommend you go see a doctor, at least your family doctor, or if you can a dermatologist. Just remember to use products that remain gentle with your skin, nothing too harsh or you will enter a vicious circle.

My advice for you is to seek help from a dermatologist. For the most part, they'll prescribe you different things from the weakest to the strongest medications, beginning with topicals, and then birth control and oral medications such as antibiotics. They can really point you where you need to go.

Accutane, or now Roaccutane in the United States, is the last resort the dermatologist will prescribe if nothing else works. Surprisingly, there's quite a few number of people who I know went through Accutane at some point in their lives, and I wouldn't even know it because their skin is so clear. However, I'd warn that it has caused pretty bad side affects, including birth defects. Because of that it is now government regulated - you have to go on birth control while taking Accutane and get monthly tests and bloodwork done to make sure that your body is not reacting to it. So accutane is really a commitment. I do know that it will clear you up. It is your choice though. I was given the chance by my dermatologist a few months back but declined because of those risks.

If a dermatologist is not an option, I'd also suggest, as others have already mentioned, to treat your skin gently - use gentle products, especially those used for sensitive skin - to avoid aggravating your acne. Products and brands that I use and like are Purpose cleanser, Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser, Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion, and Neutrogena sunscreens. The previous four brands have been suggested by three (yes, three) of my derms. The only non-mild skincare item should be the acne treatment - a gel or lotion or oral medication that fights acne.

If you want to see the specific skincare regimens my derm has given me, you can follow me, adalyn at acne.org. To tell you the truth though, I'm still looking for answers to get clear skin, since prescription medications have damaged my skin.

Ok OP, I've dealt with everything you have been going through. I've tried EVERY product for my skin and nothing worked. At all. My grandma took me to a derm and prescribed me some pills because he said it was like, a bacteria thing. It made my acne go away. If I were do go to a derm and see what they say because it could be the same thing for you as it was with me

EDIT: i wanted to say my pills were NOT accutane. i forget what it's called haha

I had it in my school times. worst time!  I used REVITOL.

i'd recommend you to visit your GP. if your acne is ligh moderate you can get some prescriptive drugs for a one off fix. if it's mild, you may need to go to a derm.

my friend had the worst acne i've ever seen, face, chest, back. he was on Roccutane I think, and his skin is absolutely FLAWLESS now O_O i couldn't believe it!

I fought acne for over 5 years and i've tried a lot of acne products, my skin is sensitive and reacted to half the products, acne products strips away your natural oils, so when you stop using it you're likely to break out again.

rather i went to my GP i was on a very light medication, and my skin is pretty much clear, i get maybe 1 serious pimple every 6 months.

Sorry but this thread was made in February and the OP never replied to any suggestion. I guess they don't care that much lol

Hi ! In response to your Accutane question, Yes they are banning it.  If you are on it or know other people on it please advise them to get off of it. I can let you talk with a mother of twins who has had major side effects from it.  I do work with the Doctors who created Proactiv and we have been switching people over to our advanced brand call Unblemish which is for the more advanced cystic type acne. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Best, Lisa <3
