Recently I found out that a lot of people I know at school have perms; they've had them for years. I was of the assumption that perms were made up of poodle-ish curls and completely fried your hair. It was definitely not the case! Their hair is gorgeous and healthy.

I was told how easy it was for them to care for their hair. Wake up, wash it, blow dry it a little, stick some gel in and leave. My hair is such a pain in the mornings (well, in general..) that I found this a good option. Not to mention, I've always wanted curly locks

My hair is wavy, although straight on the top - making it frustrating to wear it naturally.

I'd like to get it permed like this... Oh, never mind. I can't post links. Uhm. It's a picture of Taylor Swift. If you Google "Taylor Swift" it's on the second page, second row from the top, picture on the far right.

Do you think that's possible?

Also, my mum saw my hairdresser today and mentioned it to her. The response she got was "Oh! Her hair is too young!" I didn't exactly understand. I've only ever dyed my hair twice (the last time being two years ago) and I rarely do anything to it other than tie it back in a ponytail.

Also, I'm new here! Hi

People often have 'perm regret' syndrom after getting a perm. I would personally discuss it with your hair stylist and see why he/she is hesitant in the first place.

I have very curly hair naturally. Caring for it is the most tedious time consuming thing Ive ever had to do.

Taylor Swift does have natural curls... but hers are always done over with a curling iron... hence the always perfectly styled bangs as well. For the average person with curly hair bangs are usually not an option. Getting curls to look healthy and beautiful is harder than dealing with any other hair type. Curly hair is naturally dry, and applying the chemicals to get a perm are also very drying, so your hair would need a lot of care afterwards. When you have dry curly hair you also have lots of frizz. Also it usually always needs to be styled and I wish it was as easy as just "sticking a little gel in it". Finding the right products is tricky and the hair usually needs generous amounts of it... it can get pretty costly and if you miss a spot or it doesn't set properly the curls may look really weird or frizzy.

I don't mean to ramble on and on... all I'm saying is I would really consider it. Since you have healthy (I'm assuming) wavy hair already I think it would be way easier for you to get some layers and a good straightening iron. Just my opinion.

I guess my bottom line is that curly hair can look very beautiful and healthy, but it takes a lot of time and effort compared to other hair types. If I didn't have to deal with it naturally I would never want to lol.
