I have naturally wavy hair, not horrible, but it has a little wave. I usually straighten it, but now I'm looking to curl it...soft curls, kind of like Kristin Cavallari has occasionally, which is what I was always wanting to do, but my issue? I have NO idea how to use a curling iron! I'm sure that part can't be too hard, but my real question is, how many inches should hair be width wise, 1 inch, 2, 3? And do I do it consecutively until my whole hair is done, or do I skip some areas?

Was that even remotely understandable?!

Usually 1-2" across is best to work with. You don't want too much hair, or a lot of the section will not heat up and hold a curl. You can use a larger barrel iron to create looser curls & waves instead of spirals. You can either do your entire head or just the top layer so that it gives a nice beach-wave look

something to consider is the length of your hair, if your hair is shorter the curling iron can hold more of it. if it is longer you need smaller sections so the whole piece can fit.

i had a hard time using a curling iron too, my ends never came out right - ever- so i switched to hot rollers so that way the ends are all wrapped around the roller ,no folded crispy looking ends

I prefer a bigger barrel curling iron as the small ones always seem to give me TOO much curl!

yea .. i prefer a larger iron if i'm gonna do my whole head (or hot rollers are always fun and quick!, I like Remingtons, i think Conair makes a good one too ..iono

) smaller irons if i'm just gonna do the top layer (since the smaller irons take forever if i'm gonna do my whole head, i have too much hair)
