im wondering if i should add a skin serum to my skincare routine. i've been seeing a lot of skincare line coming out with these "miracle" vitamin c serums, im wondering if im missing out?? there quite expensive though. anyone here tried them? or have any comments, recommendations?

i don't, but my best friend swears by the Peter Thomas Roth Power C 20 Anti-Oxidant Serum Gel.

NOTE- HOLY GUACAMOLE! that stuff is $85 / ounce!!!

no wonder i never use it.

i also know that many of my more economical friends swear by Avalon Vitamin C Vitality Facial Serum. you can get that at Whole Foods, and other organic / natural food stores. that stuff is only like $20.

I remember kaville saying she is using one from SkinMedica and she also said The Body Shop has a serum.

I agree with brewgrl, I'm using Avalon Organics Vitamin C Vitality Facial Serum and it's a good cheaper, choice than those expensive vit c serums.

You can find it at Walmart (natural section) or Whole Foods. It's about 20-25$.

I use it to even out my skin tone and for added brightness. It got tons of great reviews. I'm on my 2nd bottle and I've seen good results-- not dramatic, but good. Leaves my skin soft, very light texture (feels like lotion rather than serum), and I've noticed my skin tone seems a lot more even and brighter.

I have heard that adding a serum is a great idea.

Olay has a good serum. I don't know the cost but it's probably around $20 US.

thank you all for the replies so far, i forget to mention that im starting to see sagging and fine lines since the fall of last year, so i really feel i should do something about it! hopefully adding a serum would boost my skin to optimal health. i couldn't afford SkinMedica and Peter Thomas Roth Power C 20 at this time. so i will look into Avalon Organics Vitamin C and body shop vitamin c line.

hopefully there's will more information and recommendations the ladies here can share with us. =)

Vit C serum is one of the best things I ever did for my skin. I wish I had started using it earlier! Not all C serums are effective though. The Avalon stuff uses C esters and they are just not terribly effective. You really need to find a product that uses L-Ascorbic Acid or Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate - I just started using a C cream that uses BOTH ( I think I mentioned it in another thread too - from xxxspameditedbymodxxx). The other C products that I know are really good are the Skin Medica (but, yeah, it's pricey). Also xxxx offers a nice serum...

I use a serum with Vitamin C among other things in it and I love it. I will say that you have to make sure that you find a product with a sable Vitamin C, otherwise the vitamin will lose its properties.

And if you don't want to add an entirely new product to your regimine, Philosophy has powdered Vitamin C that you add to each individual application of your face lotion. Good luck!

I'm using one from MyChelle and like it a lot. I can't say what it has done exactly since I'm using a couple of other great products that have greatly improved my skin. I just use it because it's good for the skin.

I don't have a product recommendation for you, but I do recommend using something with vitamin C in it. It helps alleviate some of the effects of too much sunlight as well as many other things found in the air. Hope it helps a little.

I use the Dermalogica multivitamin power concentrate. It is AMAZING.

You can read more about it here:

dermalogica.com--Dermalogica's official home page

It has improved my skin so much and I have only used it for one 45 day period. I will be getting some more soon!! This is a miracle product as far as Im concerned:)

I take a daily vitamin C&E combo gelcap with my daily multivitamin. I read that along with serums if you take it internally it will help to repair and brighten you skin. So right now I am doing that. I did a serum for a while but now I'm just doing my regular moisturizers.

I have been using skinceuticals 15% C serum for about 6months now and I love it. I did a lot of damage with sun early on so it is good to know I am undoing as much as I can. Plus the overall texture seems to be smoother and even.
