I am 60, skin sensitive and recently noticed alot of whiteheads on my face. I use Dr. Perricone's wash for the face, Arbonne serum 2 times a day, caudalie 2 times a day. I do not exfoliate scared to with sensitive skin and I don't know what I am doing wrong.

I am on a pill for thyroid and it is making my skin crazy very dry.

Need help as to what to use!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks,

Marcia

you MIGHT be cleaning your face too much, to where any little speckle of dirt or anything could disrupt it. I'm not really sure what you are doing wrong, but I do know that there is such a thing as keeping things too clean.

I agree you might be overdoing it. Try simplifying your skin care routine. Like washing with Cetaphil for sensitive skin and use a good moisturizer. The Olay Regenerist line gets great reviews.

I'd say it sounds like you do need to find a way to exfoliate. What does your skin react to? How does it react?

Whiteheads or usually a small whitish pearl-like mass due to a retention of sebum (dead skin cells) beneath the skin. There are a few ways to treat them. One is to go to a salon for a facial for dry/sensitive skin and tell them you want your whiteheads extracted. Two is to go to a dermatologist and they will extract them for you. By using a glycolic acid cream or if your skin is to sensitive a salicylic acid gel will help your skin. I myself have dry sensitive skin especially in the winter months and I would recommend that you cut back and only wash your face one time a day, I do. If you wear make-up then cleanse it then and only rinse your face in the am.

I found the aspirin mask very effective for whiteheads and reducing general redness left from a breakout. It's worth a try.

If you do want to try an exfoliator I'd recommend Dermaloica's Daily Microfoliant - it's gentle enough to be used every day (it's made with rice I think) and really just brightens the skin by removing dead cells gently - it's not harsh at all...

Let us know what you try and how you get on!

I agree w/ some of the others that you might be cleansing too much. I'd wash the face 2x/day, once with water only and once w/ a gentle cleanser. Cetaphil is great and has really done wonders for my (sensitive) skin over time. Exfoliate once a week - but not with something gritty, use a mild glycolic cleanser or something similar.

i think once you cut back on washing, you will get way less spots.

in the meantime, for whiteheads - mario badescu drying cream, it'll zap them away overnight.

I also use Retin A. It unclogs pores and prevents white/black heads.

It requires a doctor's prescription - family doctor can write script for you.

Dr. might be able to recommend products that will be beneficial for your skin.

I find that women wash their face too often or use too many products.

I think they believe "if a little is good, then a lot as fantastic".
