Awhile ago, I started washing my face with plain ol' Ivory bar soap, but it's really dried out my skin and I hate how tight it feels after I wash...Sooo, this week, I switched to Olay 'Sensitive Facial Wash'...The first day was fine. The second day- my face was red and blotchy with inflammed puffy patches along my jaw! So, I switched to Cetaphil bar cleanser, before the redness and patchiness had really subsided, and it looks like the same thing is happening. When I got out of the shower today, my ears were burning! Has anyone had any problems with either of these products? What would you suggest- preferably something natural- to get my skin back to normal? Which product sounds like the culprit?

You poor thing!

I have had the best results using Neutrogena products. They are inexpensive and last a long time. I don't know which product is to blame for your issues though! I hope you get it figured out!

I'm actually sitting around totally feeling pitiful and sorry for myself. My face is scaling and peeling, and I'm just not sure what to do. I thought about just slathering olive oil on it, but it feels so hot right now, I think the oil might just trap in the heat. Funny, because the Ivory is so strong and perfumed and it irritates my eyelids, dries out my skin, but these anti-soaps formulated for gentle cleansing are tearing my face up!
I was hoping there would just be a cure in my kitchen so I didn't have to go to the store looking like this to buy something else, but I might have to. I've thought of Neutrogena, too.

My guess in Olay. I have tried some of their moisturisers & they r TOO moisturising & clog pores. Maybe this applies to its facial form as well? Besides, Catephil is supposed to be good even for sesitive skin so my guess is that its not Catephil. In fact, I'm thinking of trying Catephil stuff ince they get pretty gd feedback. But this is my guessing, maybe u can get better feedback from others who have tried the two cleansers

Sorry to hear it XO! Maybe you should go back to what you were using before you started with the Ivory soap? You probably shouldn't put anything on your face, leave it alone and let it heal up before you try something else.

Hope it gets better soon

Well, girly, you have sensitive skin, so you need to treat it with care. Avoid any scrubs and avoid cleansers with soap that will dry and aggravate your skin.

Neutrogena isn't bad, but I prefer the purpose line as far as cheap non irritating cleansers go. What I suggest the most for you is a new like of products made for every sensitive skin that I use in conjuction with some dematologist prescribed acne products, since I have very sensitive skin AND acne problems. For my acne I use Benzeclin and Retin-A but I wash and moisturize my face with Atopalm. This stuff has made such an improvement in my skin. The cleanser and the face cream work so well and my skin doesn't dry out as much from my other medications now that I use it.

PS... put some Benadryl cream on the red patches since it sounds like an allergic reaction.

Thanks, guys...I think Cirean is right, though...I think it must be an allergic reaction to some ingredient. Unfortunately, we have no Benadryl in the house. I mixed up some MSM in some water, made a paste, and applied it to half of my face to see what it would do...It took out a lot of the redness, stopped the burning, and on top of that...half of my face is very soft now. I suppose it's the sulfur.

Also, I was using MD Formulations prior to using Ivory...I might go back to it. I might go back to Ivory. I'm not sure the MD Formulations really helped improve my acne, though, so I'm hesistant. THIS is awful...The day after using the Olay 'gentle foaming face wash

' my eyelids were peeling, and I have what can only be described as a thick crusty patch under my chin. I feel like writing the company and telling them how eeeevilllll their line is.

You mentioned olive oil a few posts back and I am no esthetician so do what you want but I thought I would mention that my grandmother applies olive oil to her skin and it is beautiful and soft and clear. FWIW!

I use Ivory and I like it. I've also used Aveeno herbal bar. Its about 5.00$ but its really gentle and not overdrying

Yeah, all the drugstore skin care products that I've tried have irritated my skin. I do well with "natural" brands like Burt's Bees, Aubrey Organics, Avalon Naturals, Queen Helene, and also Mark Kay. Funny thing, I've also had bad reactions to every Clinique skin care product I've tried so I steer clear of department store lines too!

I have never had a problem with Cetaphil, ad I don't see how that one could be the problem... It is very gentle and not allergenic at all...

I think you skin must be still freaking out from the Olay, although I really don't think it is that either... I don't know what could be causing this!!

I would say do NOT put anything else on your face... Just moisturize very well, and try to not even put on foundation bc that might irritate it...

After a few days, try the Cetaphil wash again and see what happens... If that doesn't work there is a bar soap called Purpose that is also very very gentle, you can try that one...

About 9-10 months back (maybe longer) there was a post about using olive oil as a facial wash. I tried it then and really liked it. Then summer came and although I have very dry skin I thought it might be too much. I just started back using it since again the air is much drier now and we've actually had to turn the heat on a few times already. I just buy first cold pressed extra virgin olive oil from the grocery store. I use about 1/2 teaspoon , massage it all around my face then I use one of those baby cloth diapers (the old fashioned kind) with really warm water and wipe it off. Wiping it off with one of these actually helps exfoliate. HTH

I took the MSM internally, too. My skin always looks best when I'm taking MSM, but I get lazy, now and then and forget how much of an improvement it seems to make.

MSM sounds like snakeoil, but I really think it's an invaluable supplement.

I'm pretty sure it's the Olay. This happened once before, but I thought it was the benzoyl peroxide I was using at the time. It actually left a small patch of thick and slightly scarred skin on my chin. Now, I know it was contact dermatitis from the Olay wash. I read that allergic contact dermatitis appears within 24-48 hours after contact, and in about thirty hours, my face was beet red.

I used olive oil too, and I have to admit, it was more effective at softening my skin and reducing inflammation than antibiotic ointments and hydrocortisone creams I've tried in the past, which just cause further burning and stinging. With the olive oil and MSM, along with washing my face only once a day, for now, my skin is doing much better, at the moment, with just some redness along my jawline.
