Whats the deal with it being in all the mineral makeups if it breaks u out and minerals aren't supposed to break u out? I'm confused

It doesn't break everyone out, but many people are sensitive to it. It makes me itch, but didn't make me break out.

So, I had to stop using BE. I've tried about 15 other brands since I stopped using BE three years ago, and none of them have had bismuth in them, so there a lots of options. Another ingredient I'm really sensitive to is Magnesium Stearate. But I guess it just depends on what your skin likes and doesn't like.

bismuth oxychloride is used in the mineral foundation because it helps the foundation to sits better on your skin and it has this pearlescent appearance that make your skin looks glowy and radiant. not everyone's allergic to it though, but sucks for those who does (including myself). hope this help

I read somewhere that it's primarily used as a filler. It's also a by-product of lead and copper processing!

ergh... you can't even see emoticons with under 10 posts? Gotta go find 5 more places to contribute something. I feel like I'm reading with one eye around here!

I am severely allergic to Bismuth. It makes my skin itchy and red. It also gave me cystic acne and makes me look sweaty..this ingredient is why I HATE Bare Escentuals.

I feel your pain!!! I've been posting and posting today, trying to get to 25 so that I can see links.

Bismuth didn't break me out or give me rashes, but it did make me itch, and I definitely sympathize with the "sweaty" comment.

You mean 10 doesn't get me that? Ugh - now it's 15 more to go!

I can't wear mineral foundation that has bismuth in it either. It doesn't break me out but makes my skin feel tight, itchy and shiny.

Bismuth is not good for my skin either. My first foundation was Isadora, which is really similar to BE. I loved the finish and I loved how it glides on the skin. However after few days, my skin started to itch. After the whole day the foundation was getting into my pores and made my skin so oily.

I still have one jar of this foundation, wanted to sell it, but never got time. I was ready to give up with MMU when I discovered that there is plenty of companies which are making foundation without bismuth.

I also found this forum while I was trying to figure out what on earth is irritating my skin in this wonderful and purely natural mineral foundation

FYI. Bismuth can clog pores and cause itching. It is also very shiny so it is a cheap way for companies to give you that artificial "glow".

We have NEVER added bismuth to our cosmetics. Our foundations are oil, bismuth and talc free!

Bismuth gives me the itchies when I get hot but never has broken me out. I didn't even know what it was until I joined MUT.

I used to use BE and would itch (and slightly burn) when it was hot outside. Also, if I didn't use a primer first I would be red all over from it so I went to EDM.

Bismuth has always made me itch when I sweat (along my hairline specifically) but I guess I always assumed it was normal. I've been using Bare Escentuals for YEARS now but I'm slowly realizing that it might be what has been causing me to break out for the past six months. I guess I developed a reaction to it overnight or something.

Yeah I just started today with a mineral makeup company and there was a huge paper we had to read about this..... its bad for your skin very pore clogging .... its not in the mineral makeup brand that I work for and I find that its nice foundation its makes ur skin look baby soft and airbrushed but the coverage isnt that great.... not very buildable

LOL, I work as a chemist at a copper/uranium mine and we test our product-for-market for bismuth levels (among other trace minerals)..... its not great for you. I wouldn't wear it on my face anyway.
