I'm a guy, btw

Ok, here is my dilemma.

My skin is dry yet oily. I shave twice a week with new razors(my work has a strict policy on facial hair), and i wash it 2-3 times a day with cetaphil gentle skin cleanser. My face still feels dried out, though while still oily. In the summer time, it gets real oily to the point that i need to wash it every 1-2 hrs.

My hair is the same. I get a lot of flakes yet my hair is oily if i don't wash it daily. It smells bad, too if i don't wash & condition it daily.

Any advice? I've tried dozens of face washes and moisturizers yet nothing works. Help!

Start washing your face with honey maybe? It works wonders for me. As for your hair, I don't know what to tell you. Except a quick remedy for oily hair when you don't have time to wash it is: sprinkle cornstarch (aka baby powder) on your hair then comb it out. It takes a minute or two to get it out for me. But for a guy I'm sure it'll go a lot quicker. =)

Try using the Oil Cleansing Method to clean your skin.  It will dissolve oils and cleanse your face without drying it out.  It will normalize your skin.  As for your hair, try using castile soap like dr. bronners.  Maybe that'll help.  Using castile soap, you may not have to condition as often and it cleans without stripping your hair.  Maybe you can also switch to a thinner conditioner.

Could it be possible that you are washing to much with whatever products you are using. I had a breakout problem last year thought it was a bacteria and threw out all my makeup, went to a dermatologist and she said it was my acne cream and I was using it to much so it had the reverse effect. I switched to sensitive skin soaps and only use it at night than in the morning just rinse with cold water. :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

It sounds like you have Combination Skin that changes and revitalizes depending on the season. With that said, I would recommend...

CLEANSER

-Ole Henriksen Aloe Vera Deep Cleanser or Dr. Brandt Skincare Pores No More Cleanser

TONER

-Anthony Logistics For Men Astringent Toner Pads

MOISTURIZER

-Billy Jealousy Combination Code Face Moisturizer

Have you spoken with a Dermatologist about the excess oiliness?

About 12 years ago I went on Accutane because of cystic acne. All the acne disappeared as well as all the horrible oiliness. A year later, the oiliness returned so I went on Accutane again. Now, I get a bit of oiliness in the summer and the rest of the time my skin feels great. As well, I only wash my hair every 4-5 days, a far cry from the twice a day shampoos I had to do because of the oil in my scalp..

Accutane is off the market but a generic version is still available.

You need to have a Dermatologist prescribe it and follow you through the treatment - lasts around 20 weeks.

Many people will tell you not to take Accutane as it does come with some warnings.

But if you are interested, talk to your Dermatologist. He/she will explain all the pros and cons and determine if you will be a good candidate.

Accutane was a godsend to me and I highly recommend it to anyone with serious cystic acne and excess oiliness.

I think it's because it feels attacked and produces more sebum to compensate. I would switch for a more hydrating moisturizer to help with the dry issue (you seem to have enough sebum).

For your hair, it seems to me your scalp is irritated. There are shampoos for irritated scalp but the problem is they only target this issue, considering i have medium length hair, i have noticed i needed a second shampoo for my lengths, so that's not the best solution in my opinion. I would try first Head&Shoulders, it's a good shampoo that has helped me in the past, i think Neutrogena also has a good shampoo for dandruffs. Do not wash your hair daily, in theory we are supposed to do it every 2-3 days. If your hair is really oily, try a dry shampoo, you can try with any kind of starch, or clay. Just bend your head over the sink, and apply some on your hair, wait a few minutes, then brush your hair to get rid of everything. If you own a blowdryer, it can be used as well.

Lessen the amount of conditioner you use, or the day after it will surely look oily. For the scent issue, i know there are hairsprays made to just freshen up your hair, you could try that.

Hi EDZY if you are really suffering from oily skin you should apply following tips given below:-

Advantage of oily skin, aging more slowly than other skin types.

Oily skin needs a special detergent and warm water and soap to prevent clogged pores.

Above all, avoid sharp oil products strip the skin and facilitate peeling.

You can compensate for the reverse reaction as reactive seborrhoea, where the sebaceous glands are working overtime for the oil habit known.

Prevention of skin products for your skin taut and dry humor. Cause you to shrink the upper layers of the skin. This restricts the flow of oil from the beginning of the end pores, leading to blockages and breakouts.

Clean oily skin with oil-based products, which they dissolve sebum effectively. Choose to keep oil-free moisturizer for shine-free complexion.
