Mabye I should have titled this "what NOT to do or use". Oh well. I just got done giving myself a peel using L'Oreal's ReNoviste (10% glyco). I don't think it did a thing even though I applied a second and third layer because it wasn't until the second layer that I even started to feel a tingle, which is why I then applied a third. I don't see or feel any difference.

Anyway, my real concern is what should I NOT put on my face after doing a peel? Even though I don't feel it did anything, I still had put the glycolic acid on my face (yes, I rinsed it off really well)

It's similar to do NOT use Vit C with Copper products when you're trying to get the benes from each of them because they cancel each other out - you should wait 6-12 hrs (various findings) between products for maximal results. I've also heard NOT to use an AHA or BHA product right after doing a microdermabrasion.

LOL - maybe we need a sticky thread on what combos NOT to do if there's enough "do not"s out there for various combos. The LAST thing we want to do is take 10 steps backwards!

Thanks for any advice,

Kathy

I just started using L'Oreal's ReNoviste about 3 weeks ago, using it twice a week only. The stuff is AWESOME! I have tried many products for my acne (Murad, St. Ives, Clearisil, etc.) that have not worked as advertised. I have stuck with using the ReNoviste twice a week and washing my face every night with Purpose face wash. That's it. My skin hasn't been this clear in a long, long, time. :clap

Anyway...

When I use it, I use it at night right before going to bed. As I mentioned, I wash my face with a mild face cleanser (Purpose) then use the ReNoviste. All I put on my face is the enclosed moisturizer they supply. There was some warning about not using it with Sulfonate or something to that effect, but I still use my acne spot treament (if needed).. In the morning I usually just wash my face with water and use Total Effects Anti Aging Anti Blemish Moisturizer (I have no idea what ingredients are in it) under my primer/makeup. I haven't had any issues.

Thanks, Leadfoot. I'm 59 and don't have an acne or similar problem. I DO want to even out my skin tone, help diminish fine lines, and help smooth out the skin. I started at-home dermabrading about 7 weeks ago and that has done wonders, so I thought doing some peels might be good too. Maybe I just need a stronger peel to see anything. Meantime I was nervous about what not to put on after doing a peel so I wouldn't aggrevate the skin - it's probably upset at me already for attacking it - lol.

Hmmmmm, come to think about it, I don't think a serum/cream with a high vitamin C content would be good right after a peel since it can be irritating in high doses anyway. Not sure about using SCRP's after a peel - could be a really good thing or maybe not.

I played it safe and just put camellia oil on for the time being.

I have used the ReNoviste peel as well and afterwards I had to use a milder moisturizer because my face stung a little-I stayed away from my stronger moisturizers. Glad it is working for you!

I try to keep the heavy duty peels/exfoilating scrubs etc down to once a week. someone on this site sent me the Aloette Enzyme treatment and I'm going to use it for a few weeks to see what it does, but I wouldn't mix it with anything else, especially right afterwards becasue I don't know enough about these chemicals, only what I've read and that's not to overdo it!

I use a glycolic acid product everyday, except for the peel/scrub days and get great results from that, I've been using it for years. I would think that it was wise to apply the oil like you did, because after exfoliation, a moisturizer is probably more effective- where do you get camellia oil and what does it do?

P.S. We are neighbors, at least when you are in NJ

From doing a lot of research they do not cancel each other out but copper products will cancel out the vitamin c benefits. You will still get the copper benefits. I use a vitamin c product in the morning because it also aids in your sun protection and them I use my copper product at night. By the way I got a lot of my info from here

Dolphin Gal! Your 59? You look like your in your early thirties!! Come on now, give us your secret. :w00t: Leslie.

Well howdy, neighbor! I'm in what my friends call BFE (Bum F**ked Egypt) - lol - out in the middle of nowhere in the Pine Barrens ... about 15 min from Hammonton and 35 min to Atlantic City. I'll PM you and maybe we can get together when I get back north.

Camellia Oil .... I haven't learned how to do the "here" link thingy yet, but here are some sites. You only need a little. It sinks in fast (for me) and is a carrier oil. My g/f has very oily skin and can't use it straight, although she does use it in her soapmaking products and puts a few drops in her regular moisturizer.

Thanks for the compliment, but ... It was a good picture (translate, it doesn't show the multiple smile lines). It wasn't a closeup (biggie! cuz you can't see the fine lines and small crinkles). The lighting just happened to be perfect.

I have mom to thank for decent genes, otherwise with the amount of sun and salt water I've been exposed to over the decades, I would look like a dried grapefruit with alligator skin - I'm only a dried orange - lol. Even having been pretty good with sunblocks, the really high SPF ones weren't out when I was younger ... and I never realized until a few years ago that sunblocks loose their properties after a year and I was using stuff that was 4-5 yrs old (but not now). I kayak, and when the water is a little choppy, you DON'T stop to apply more sunblock. I'm a marine field biologist and much of the time sunblock gets sweated off or splashed off and you don't have time to reapply - that's if you carry it into the field to begin with.

I had a few closeups taken of my face about 7 weeks ago when I started a serious skin care regime, which included at-home microdermabrasion. Trust me, the closeups tell a whole different story! Had my g/f take them so there would be objective analyis of product results and I intend to take more pics along the way plus at the start of a new regime (as I wait for my SCRP's to arrive).
