I need some help figuring out what hair type I am.

I usually wash my hair every other day.  I don't put any product in it except for hairspray when my hair is in a ponytail.  In the mornings, I will either straighten it or leave it in my natural waves.  When it gets to be mid afternoon, the shaft and ends look stringy (it comes about three inches above my bellybutton, to give you a sense of how long it is).  I wondered if this was because it wasn't brushed, because it looks better after I do.  Now the next morning, my hair looks somewhat greasy at the roots so I spray some dry shampoo in it.  Again in the afternoon it's stringy.

When I shampoo, I use a very generous dollop. Then I take about a nickel to a quarter size drop of conditioner, rub it between the palms of my hands, and add a splash of water.  Then I put a little on my head and focus the rest on the shaft and ends.

So what do you ladies think?

I assume you are asking if your hair is normal, oily or dry?

I wouldn't focus on the length of your hair - focus on the scalp instead.

With your hair so long, I wouldn't think that you would be able to get the natural oils down the shafts. As a result, the length might appear drier than the scalp.

When you brush your hair, you are distributing the oils from your scalp to the ends, so this is why you say that your hair looks nicer.

To me, your hair sounds normal to oily. But the ends are dry.

Just wash your scalp with shampoo and let the suds travel through the hair shafts when you rince.

Then use a decent leave in conditioner - on the ends - to give them more moisture.
