I have been using the Clinique 3 step skin care system for a while now. Well, I do like it however I am not too crazy about the soap. I have to use the Rinse off foaming cleanser at night to remove my makeup first. Then use the facial soap because it is not made to remove makeup. Kinda a long process. Well, I love their Clarifying lotion 2 and my skin just does not feel completely clean until I use it. Next I use their Dramatically different lotion or gel, depending on how dry my face is that day. I really love Noxzema's original blue jar cleanser. I love the feel of it with the menthol, and it removes makeup, oil,and dirt all in one, unlike the facial soap of cliniques. So I was thinking of starting to use Noxzema deep clean cleasner with moisturizers, clarifying lotion 2, and dramatically different. What do you girls think about mixing products like this? I have always had this thing about having to use all the same stuff from one product line, so I cant decide on what to do. I wonder if I will get the same results from the clarifying lotion and moisturizer without using their facial soap first. So let me know what you all think! Thanks

I don't see what would be wrong with mixing up the products. Paula Begoun, the Cosmetics Cop, said the following on her site:

Problem: I've been following your advice and am using products from several different lines. My skin is doing well, but all the cosmetics salespeople say it is a mistake to mix and match. They say products are designed to work together, and that is what helps the skin best.

Solution: Stop listening to those cosmetics salespeople; they are wrong. If every line had SPF 15 sunscreens with the requisite UVA protection, gentle cleansers with nonirritating ingredients, foundations that aren't peach-colored, and on and on, I would agree that you don't need to mix and match. But I have found good and bad products in every line. Many lines don't have adequate sunscreens, while they do have products that contain irritating ingredients, or offer rose, peach, and ashen foundation colors, or make mascaras that flake and smear. If you only buy products from one line, chances are that you will end up with some bad products! Mixing and matching is the only way to go. You don't wear clothes from one designer, buy furniture from one manufacturer, take medicine from one pharmaceutical company, or eat food from just one company. The only way to develop a successful skin-care or makeup routine is to select what works best for your skin type and needs, not because it's from a particular line.

I don't know anyone who is completely happy with EVERY product in a line. Advertisers obviously want you to use every product they have. I say mix it up if you're not happy with your current routine.

That really helped! That is how I always felt about things- (they are made to work together). But now I see where she is coming from! Thanks again!!!

I think it's fine to mix and match - I've been doing it since I started using stuff on my face. I think the only two things that are from the same brand is my moisturizing SPF and eye serum (Olay).

It'a absolutely ok to mix and match. The most important thing is to use what works for you!

its fine! i do the same thing! i use all clinique except for the soap and it has been working great for me

I dont see anything wrong with mixing I do it all the time. They obviously want you to spend the money on their products instead of another brand.

Yeah, I agreed with everyone that there's nothing wrong to mix and match. I do this all the time too.

I mix and match a lot. There is definitely nothing wrong with it as long as it is working for you!!

i'm definitely a mix it up person. i don't think i use two items from the same line. it depends on what works for you!
