My fiance has some really bad/dead/rough/dry spots on his skin. He has them constantly in his armpits and gets them around his neck all the time. They also show up on his hipbones and other weird places that get rubbed by clothing sometimes.

Lotion and stuff doesn't help. Do you have any advice on what type of stuff works? Homemade would be better since he doesn't want to use "products" but he's getting fed up enough that he's starting to consider it. So if it is a product.. cheaper would be better.

Part 2: How the hell can I convince him to just do it because he hates it and it looks weird! :p /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

IMHO..... Convince him to go to a dermatologist.... It sould be a sign of something more serious......

Exfoliating could help. You could try mixing a paste with sugar and olive oil for example. For the neck i would prefer baking soda, it's less rough.

Then, whether he wants it or not, exfoliating will only get rid of dead cells and skin flakes, but if he wants them to seriously be gone or at least dminish, he has to moisturize. He can try olive oil, if he's really bothered by the scent, you could try jojoba oil or grapeseed oil. I don't suggest vaseline (aka parafinum liquidum) other than to be used as a protective coat against the elements, it's not nourishing.

The point of using oils is they are perfect for a massage, and i don't know about you but a soft skin always feels better under your hand than dry skin :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Do the spots itch? It could be eczema as well, or a reaction to your washing product.

I´d get those patches checked out by a dermatologist. For all we know, he could have some sort of condition that needs prescription creams. The "lotions don´t help" statement pretty much implies that it´s not an issue of not enough moisture, I´d let a professional diagnose the condition first!

They don't itch. They just look dark and dry and sometimes they get a little red if the neck of his shirt rubs against the marks. Underarms.. I'm assuming it's from sweat because he's pretty gross in there :p /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />. He let me attack him with homemade body scrub today and it got rid of a lot of it, hopefully it'll keep it away or keep working at least.

He's gone to doctors (many that work on skin as well - there aren't many specialists in our area) and they don't think it's anything serious or that medication would help with.

I get that, i don't have a good opinion of dermatologists myself.

I would go on with scrubbing and moisturising. I was thinking you could maybe contact Dr Schulz, he's a dermatologist that makes videos (he has a youtube channel and his own website), and people are free to ask him questions. I wouldn't be a consult but maybe he would provide a more useful answer than the other doctors.

If he is getting red spots under his arms and other areas that his clothes rub - could he be having an allergic reaction to the detergent or body soap?

The next time he goes to see a doctor about the spots, why not go with him. This way you will understand exactly why the dr is or isn't concerned.

Ask him to make another appt with his family doctor, and start from there.
